The next day Maru tells Junno what happened at Koki’s apartment the day before, since Ueda wasn’t there. Which probably was a good thing too seeing as Ueda would’ve decked him for doing the exact opposite of they had advised him to do.
“ Why did you do that, Yuichi?” Junno sighed.
“ What did he do?” Ueda asks as he joins them in a small cafe near Shabuya and Maru feels his heart skip a beat.
Before Maru can speak Junno says....
“ Oh nothing much. Except this idiot went by Koki’s place causing trouble..again.”
“Maru! I told you not to...”
“ I know, Tatusya, I know alright.” Maru runs his hands through his short hair. “ I just wanted to explain things and to tell him how I felt but we started arguing instead and I just want to help him, guys, but his damn guard dog won’t let me anywhere near him and Koki doesn’t even want to talk to me unless we’re on camera.” Maru finishes.
“ Maru, you just broke up with him and...well..honestly you trying to be so close to him right now is the worst thing you could for him. It will only make things worse for him, he’ll never heal nor will he ever get off of the “candy”. Look Kame knows what he’s doing, I have seen him help addicts before. Koki wasn’t his first patient and he was successful with his last one, so stop being so angry and blaming Kame, and cut the name calling as well. Koki’s in good hands.” Junno said.
“ Though I’m not sure what you’re more angry about. Koki’s addiction or his willingness to accept Kame’s help so easily when he refused yours. Oh did Kame give you the material he gave me and Junno?” Ueda asked.
“ Yeah he did and I..wait how did you know?” Maru asks perplexed.
“ I advised him too. Like Junno and I, you needed to start trying to understand Koki’s addiction and why he tells you that he just can’t stop the way you want him too.” The Trio head outside, “ Koki has a good reason for not stopping cold turkey Maru.”
“ Its in the material Kame gave you but..I’ll put it to you this way, instead of a six member unit we would become a five man unit..permanently. Look if you want Koki to ever speak to you again outside of work then you should stop calling Kame names and acting like you know what you’re talking about. Kame has his reasons for helping Koki that go far beyond what you think they do.”
“ You mean he’s in love with Koki?” Maru asked.
“ For as long as you have been, maybe longer. But when you first confessed Kame backed off and has been living with these feelings and its tearing him up inside. Even more so because now since you left Koki, Kame’s way is clear but he knows that if he tells Koki how he feels at this point it will only mess things up, and he doesn’t want that.” Junno said before Ueda could respond.
“ That’s why he’s so protective. I mean to an extent he always has been more protective of Koki than the rest of us, even before his feelings towards Koki changed, but now if he sees a threat to Koki’s well being-in this case you- he bristles faster than you can blink. He knows you don’t want anything to happen him but as long as you’re acting this way and haven’t started to move on and attempt to understand Koki’s problems then he’s not going to let you near him unless Koki says otherwise.” Ueda finishes.
“ Well, I got to go guys. Jin wants to hang out for a bit.” Junno said and left the other two alone.
“ Um...Ueda, can we go back to your place for a bit? There’s something else I want to talk to you about?” Maru asked feeling slightly nervous.
Ueda nods and they head back to Ueda’s apartment. After kicking off their shoes, Ueda goes to make tea. He comes back with the tea and hands a cup to his friend.
“ So what’s up?” Ueda asked curiously.
“ Well..you could say that there was another reason for me leaving him. Maru swallows his nerves as they felt like they were just going jump right out of system. “ I-I love you Tatsuya. I wasn’t too sure at the beginning but the more everything piled on with Koki and the more I hung out with you..its..I’m sure of it now. I love you Tat-chan and I promise you I won’t repeat the same mistakes with you that I did with him.” Maru finishes and just stares into his tea as if it held all the answers to life’s problems.
“Yu-Yuichi...I..put the tea down will you.” Ueda waits while Maru does just that. “ Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited to hear those words?” Smiling, Ueda leans in and captures Maru’s lips.
Giving into the kiss, Maru moans and realizes just how long its been. He pushes his new lover into the sofa and that’s where they spend the rest of the day, only getting up long enough to move to the bedroom where Ueda has more room to play. He pulls Maru on down on the bed refuses to allow him to get up until morning.
Back at Koki’s place....
“ Hey Kame...its time to get up.” Koki whispers as he places a shaking hand on Kame’s shoulder.
“ Hey Koki. How do you feel?” Kame looks up smiling sleepily.
“ I’m shaking, in severe pain and I’m as cold as the arctic wind. Detox is pure hell..how do you think I am?” he says getting angry for no reason other than his abrupt mood swings kicked in, though he still snuggled closer to his friend trying to warm up some.
“ Its supposed to be hell, Koki, that’s why they call it detox. Besides, you’re the one that decided to cut back so much on the Heroine. I was going to cut you back a little at a time but you had to be stubborn and do it your way. Why do you think I got all that stuff from the hospital? So I can monitor your heart rate and blood pressure..especially at night. But I was talking about from your confrontation with Maru yesterday.”
“ Oh...that.” Koki pulls the duvet up over his shoulders “ I don’t..not really. I’m more upset by the fact that he blames you for what’s happen to me and that he’s always calling you names; more so than with the truth that he doesn’t feel that way about me anymore. I still miss him, Kame. But he’s probably with Tat-chan right now and I’m not going even try to win him back. Why couldn’t he have been more like you, Kazu?” Koki asks not really expecting a response.
“ Yeah about that, Koki....” Kame’s tone became very sad all of a sudden, “ Sometimes I do think Yuichi may be right. I was the one that took you to that night club and I did introduce the two of you, so maybe I am at fault here.” He states as a single tear runs down his cheek.
Hearing this has Koki shooting up in alarm, he says.. “ Don’t Kame. Please don’t do this to yourself Kame, I couldn’t bear it. He’s wrong, none of this is your doing I don’t blame you for what I chose to do. I never blamed you nor anyone else, I did this, I chose these wretched drugs instead of just leaning on those who care for me. Yes, we went to that club and yes, you introduced me to the guy who became my dealer. But you didn’t force me to do anything that night, this addiction is my problem, my fault. So, please don’t continue to beat yourself up over this, neither one of us could’ve forseen what was going to transpire after that night.” He finishes and wraps his arms around Kame, afraid that he would just suddenly up and leave him.
“ Okay, Koki. I’ll try. So how about breakfast? I’m hungry.” His slight drama queen-ish whine made Koki chuckle.
“ Okay, princess. Let’s go. First I need to do something about this...” he shows Kame just how bad he’s shaking.
Kame nods and they both head into the living room. When Koki’s done, Kame heads into the kitchen and starts breakfast. Only stopping long enough to check Koki’s heart rate and as him to set the table. When breakfast is done they sit down to eat only to be interrupted by Koki’s phone going off...
“ Who is it Koki?” Kame asks through mouthful of food.
“ Its Jin. Why is he calling me all of a sudden? He was the first one to turn away from me, especially after that day I almost beat Maru for hiding my drugs.”
“ Give me the phone, Koki.” Kame holds out his hand.
Koki hands the phone over and watches as Kame switches it too speaker...
“ Yes, Jin. What is it?” Kame asks.
“ I called to talk too Koki...not you kame.” Jin said.
“ He’s right here. He can hear you.”
“ Hey Koki, I just called to find out who you were doing and to apologize. Junno told me about what Maru’s said and done since he’s left you. I also took the time to read up on your addiction, I am sorry for the way I’ve acted. I’m here for you whenever you need to talk about stuff. I know Kame’s been helping you with your addiction and I just wanted to tell you that no matter how bad off you get while you’re detoxing, continue to trust in Kazu and in his ability to help you. If its any consolation, Koki, I plan on talking to Maru about the name calling and his attitude regarding your addiction and Kame. You can beat this Koki, we know you can. Even though it will be a long road and a bumpy one, just stay strong, keep your head up and let Kame do his job.” He finishes.
Kame goes to answer but Koki stops him.
“ I’m not doing all that great to be honest, Jin. I’m always shaking, cold as hell and in severe pain. I have mood swings that you don’t want too see and the only time I have any control over the damn things is when Kame’s near. I will continue to trust Kame, don’t worry. Thanks Jin, its nice to know that not everybody thinks the same way Nakamaru does and I...”
Koki stops speaking and passes out right there at the kitchen table. Next thing Kame hears is Koki’s heart monitor go off, seeing as Koki never took the sensors off this morning as he’s taken to wheeling the thing from room to room; a habit he picked up when Kame was busy working on his off days.
“ KOKI!! Shit Jin, I gotta go...do me a favor and call the 911!” Kame yells as he pulls Koki too the floor.
“ Sure thing Kame.” Jin hangs up and calls the ambulance and after giving them Koki’s address he speeds over to his friend’s apartment.
“ Come on, Koki. Breathe for me. Don’t do this...don’t leave me. Come on..” He says between breathing air into Koki’s lungs and doing chest compressions.
A minute later the paramedics are knocking at the door, Kame yells that the door is open as Koki never locked last night. They see Koki lying on the floor and Kame’s efforts to bring his friend around. Telling Kame to get out of the way so they can pick up where he stopped, at the same time Jin runs into the apartment...
“ Kame what happened?” Jin asks, fear etched in every line of his face.
Kame tells Jin to hold on as he starts telling the paramedics about Koki’s Heroine addiction and that he’s going through detox...
“ So, that’s what this stuff is for?” One of them says as they manage to bring Koki back, motioning to heart monitor and what not.
“ Yeah, his medical doctor got them for me. I’m his addiction specialist, here’s my certification cards for that and cpr. I am the only he trusts enough to help him, so I did what was necessary.” He hands the cards over.
“ He’s breathing and we’re taking him to the hospital.” the lead paramedic tells Kame and Jin.
Kame climbs in with Koki while Jin follows in his car, calling his boyfriend Junno and Ueda on the way. An hour later Koki’s resting in a private room with Kame sitting by his bed, eyes red and swollen from crying, clutching Koki’s hand so hard that he’s afraid that if he lets go then Koki will leave him. Jin goes out to wait for the Ueda and Junno, Junno shows up first and tells him that Ueda will be here shortly as he’s trying to keep Maru from following. Five minutes after Junno goes into see Koki, Ueda walks up with Maru in tow...
“ Tat-chan, I don’t think its a good idea that he’s here right now. Kame’s emotional state isn’t the greatest and I think him seeing Maru here will push him over the edge, seeing as Koki still hasn’t woken up yet.” Jin says.
“ I know, I tried to get him to stay at home but he’s being more stubborn than you when you’re drunk.” Ueda said with a sigh.
“ Koki’s still my friend and I still care for him. I have just as much as right to be here as anyone else does. If he wakes up while I’m here and if he wants me to leave, then I’ll leave. I read the material that Kame gave me and it did help me to understand a little better what he’s going through. But I still think that...” He’s cut off by Kame who came to see what all the noise was about...
“ He still blames me for what happened and is happening to Koki. I don’t want him here and while Koki’s unconscious its my decision on who gets to stay.” He says to the three of them.
“ He’s fine, Nakamaru. He’s breathing and he’s stable, now you know how he is...go home.” Kame says.
“ Just because you’re in love with him doesn’t mean you have to be his fucking guard dog, Kame.”
“ Will you cut it with the name calling already, Maru? Sheesh...we just talked about this very thing this morning over breakfast.” Ueda glares and whacks his lover on the head. “ And you wonder why Koki doesn’t want anything to do with you...idiot.”
“ You’re right Tatsuya.” He turns to face Kame. “ I’m sorry Kame. I know I shouldn’t be angry with you and that I shouldn’t blame you. I guess I’m just jealous over the fact that he refused my help but not yours. I will continue to do as Koki requests and keep my distance unless we have work, its just..I’m worried about him now just like everyone else here. Can I at least come in and sit with him for five minutes? Please Kame? Just five minutes, that’s all I’m asking for. After that then I’ll leave.” Maru says desperately.
Ueda and Jin look watch Kame for any kind of reaction...
“ Five minutes, that’s it.” Kame relents and allows Maru into Koki’s room.
He walks over and first he contemplates taking the chair Junno just vacated but decides against it, he figures its better not to push things with Kame right now. That and that’s Kame’s spot anyway. After five minutes Maru leaves taking Ueda and with him, Jin turns to Kame and says...
“ Don’t you think you should be a little easier on Yuichi? He genuinely feels bad for the what he’s put Koki through.”
Kame says nothing and continues his vigil late into the night, falling asleep right were he’s sitting by Koki’s bed never letting his hand go.

He walks over and first he contemplates taking the chair Junno just vacated but decides against it, he figures its better not to push things with Kame right now. That and that’s Kame’s spot anyway. After five minutes Maru leaves taking Ueda and with him, Jin turns to Kame and says...
“ Don’t you think you should be a little easier on Yuichi? He genuinely feels bad for the what he’s put Koki through.”
Kame says nothing and continues his vigil late into the night, falling asleep right were he’s sitting by Koki’s bed never letting his hand go.
