Title: The Sacred Wishing Jewel

Summary: Koki is a 22 year old human guy, living a normal but unsatisfied and restless life, gets pulled into Japan's feudal past by an otherworldly creature, where he crosses paths with a dog like half-demon named Inu-Kame. There he discovers his past and future and that not all legends are the work of the imagination. Can ancient history give Koki the answers he's looking for and settle his restless heart? Will price be too high to pay for such answers and will he be able to bare the cost? 
A/N: Later chapters Koki and only Koki, will start calling "Inu-Kame" just Kame, everyone else will still refer to him as 'Inu-Kame'







‘He’s asleep, but we really don’t look alike.’ Koki thinks as he cautiously steps closer. All of a sudden Ren wakes up, startling Koki as he does so.

“ Its you! Oh...you are me. Where’s InuKame? He’s with you, is he not?” Ren asks.

“ He went looking for you actually.” Koki replies.

“ What are you to InuKame?” Koki doesn’t know how to answer that. Considering that even though InuKame said that Koki’s becoming important to him...all he still thinks about is Ren, “ It doesn’t really matter. Regardless, you’re in the way.”  He continues.

Ren touches Koki’s forehead and paralyzes his body so he can’t move. InuKame gets turned around until he sees those demons that bring Ren the souls he needs, he decides to follow them instead.


“ InuKame comes, but not for you. He’s coming to see me. You can do nothing. Even if you yell your voice will not be heard, I will see that InuKame will never lay eyes on you. You will not interfere.”


“ Ren...are you planning to kill him? Do you hate him that much?” Koki finds himself pinned against a tree by one of Ren’s demonic helpers.

“ InuKame seeks my death..”

“ You’re wrong, Ren! He still loves you, for christ’s sake!” Koki shouts, ‘Okay so maybe that wasn’t the smartest thing to say in my interest but still...’ Koki thinks as InuKame shows up.

“InuKame..!” Koki says but then realizes that InuKame can’t see him.

“ Ren..it was you, wasn’t it? You’re the one that was gathering those souls...why?” InuKame asks.

“ Because this sham body made from dirt and bone...does not function well unless nourished with souls. You must find me repulsive, InuKame. I live in this realm wrapped in the souls of the dead, driven only by my hatred of you.”

“ Idiot..you..you may hate me...but I haven’t stopped thinking about you for a single day!” InuKame shouts.

‘Its as I thought...he does still love him. Then did he just tell me what I wanted to hear?’ Koki thinks still paralyzed and bound to the tree.

“ I never cared what you looked like. I could never find you disgusting.”

“ Is that..true?” Ren does look sad and unsure but Koki thinks its just a ploy.

“ Ren..”

Ren walks closer to InuKame and lightly touches his face.

“ Aren’t you frightened? I might kill you with these hands right here, right now.”

InuKame says nothing.

“ Run InuKame!” Koki shouts but Ren’s spell makes it so he can’t be heard.

Then Ren kisses InuKame, InuKame’s surprised but does nothing to pull away. He then pulls the half demon in his arms and says, “ I’ve been wanting to do that while I was still alive.”

“ Ren..”


‘ He’s supposed to kill InuKame, Dammit! I feel like an idiot!’ Koki mentally berates himself, he turns his head from the scene before his eyes.

‘ Ren’s scent...so many memories. But..he smells of death too, of the grave soil that restored him to life..’ InuKame thinks, he’s confused but he doesn’t let Ren go as he falls under the Priest’s spell.

“ Ren..what..what should I do?” he asks.

“ We can never return to that past, so..let us just be like this a while longer.” Ren whispers in his ear.

‘What? The ground..its sinking beneath InuKame’s feet.’ Koki thinks in horror...now he’s really pissed. “ Stop it, Ren!” Koki shouts, earning a glare from the dead man.

“ InuKame..I shall never let you go again. Come with me to hell!” Ren says,

“ InuKame! You moron! Can’t you see what he’s doing?!” Koki shouts desperately now. ‘ Its no use...he’s enchanted him.’ He tries Ren again.

“ Ren you bastard! I know you hear me! You’re wrong...InuKame’s not the one that should be hated. You two were tricked fifty years ago! Your real enemy is a demon named Naraku! He’s the true enemy here...not InuKame!” Koki tries to get through to Ren.

Ren just looks at him with hatred in his gaze and with one slight flick of his finger...the demon around Koki tightens and he’s shocked with an invisible force.

“ Aahhh!! R..Ren..” Koki breaths out, falling to the ground.


“ Silence! Vengeance alone..will not resurrect me.” Ren says angrily to Koki.

“ Don’t you agree, InuKame..That rather than living the rest of your life unable to forget me, its better to die with me now and forever..” Ren whispers these words almost like an incantation.

“ You insane ass hole!! I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!! GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF HIM!!” Koki screams his rage is a force unlike any Ren’s encountered before.

Ren’s body starts to glow as the souls he’s collected escapes from his body. ‘This guy..wants to steal my soul! I must hurry before all the souls depart this body.’ Ren thinks and grabs InuKame and tries to pull him further into the ground.

“ InuKame! Wake up!”

‘ Koki’s...voice..? Koki..are you there...?’ He looks up in his daze and sees Koki’s body outlined in the darkness surrounding his vision.

“ KOKI!!” InuKame shouts and leaps over Ren and uses Tetsusiaga to cut the demon away from the human. “ What are you doing here...?”

“ What am I..?!” Koki starts but is cut off as the soul collector demons go back to Ren.

“ Ren..you...?”  InuKame asks.

“ Is that guy more precious to you..? InuKame, do not forget..there was no lie in my kiss. Do not forget..”  Ren tells him.

“ REN!” InuKame shouts but Ren’s gone and Koki’s walking away, he’s hurt and confused.

“ Hey..” InuKame starts..

“ Leave me alone. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to hear all that...but I heard everything!” Koki cuts across him.

“ What do you mean everything?”

“ Everything! From the start...when you first showed up! Again, Ren’s still all you think about, the only one you feel anything for. I’m going home for a bit. What am I to you?” Koki asks InuKame again.

“ Oh for..” he goes to follow Koki.

“ SIT!”

“ Hey!” InuKame shouts but Koki doesn’t stop.

With the barrier now gone, Miroku and Shippo finally catch up.

“ What’s the matter, InuKame?” Shippo asks.

“ Looks like you’ve been through something awful.” the monk says.

Meanwhile Ren goes to pay his brother a visit, who was just about to fall asleep when he hears..

“ Kira...” Ren says standing at the door of the old man’s house.

“ Ren...my brother..”

“ What is the matter, Kira, do you fear me..your elder brother?”

“ Ren..brother..Do you still hunger for InuKame’s life?” he asks his elder brother.

“ I’ve just come from an encounter with InuKame. Alas, he left it with his life.”

“....”

“ That guy...Koki. He told me that Naraku is my true enemy. Talk Kira. Tell me all you know of Naraku.

“ Y-yes brother.”  - If he hears the truth..perhaps the hatred of InuKame that binds him to this world..can be severed- The old man thinks and so begins the story of Naraku from fifty years ago.

Meanwhile the other three follow Koki.  With InuKame trying to talk to him but not allowing him to catch up.

“ Aren’t you going after Koki, InuKame? He’s gonna go back.” Shippo asks.

“ He must’ve heard that...” the half demon mutters to himself.

“ Did something happen between you and Master Ren?” the monk asks.

“ Something? Only the kind of ‘something’ you do with someone you care about all the time!”

“ You..did..THAT...Right in front of Koki?!” The monk asks shocked.

“ Your mind is even filthier than I thought! No, I didn’t do THAT!” InuKame corrects.

Koki senses the half demon following him, “ Don’t follow me....I hate you!”

“ What?!” InuKame growls.

“ Now listen you....Rule one: Let the guy calm down first.” Miroku says, using his staff and pinning the half demon to the ground...dazed.

“ I don’t think he can hear you.” Shippo comments.


Mean while back at Master Takahashi’s place:


“ I see...the wounded thief I tended too..”

“ Yes. It all began with Onigumo’s corrupt soul. He was devoured by hordes of the very demons that he himself had summoned to his side. From that devouring, the demon Naraku was born. My brother...InuKame himself was also deeply scarred by Naraku’s web of deceit.”

Ren goes to look out the door and says, “ At first...I only wanted to know the reason I died. Kira. InuKame has changed, hasn’t he?” Ren asks.

“ Changed?”

“ His face has grown much more gentler. The InuKame I knew had insolent eyes. Eyes that trusted no one. The guy Koki..has he changed him?”

“ Koki...is a great mystery. Whether it is his power or not, I cannot say. But something, indeed, is melting InuKame’s heart.” Kira says.

“ Hmph. What I once wanted to do..that guy is doing in my stead, eh?”

“ Ren...”  Kira says.

‘ If I had lived...I would’ve been the one melting his heart.’ Ren thinks as he walks out of the house.

“ My brother! Can you not, even now..break the spell of vengeance?” Kira asks.

“ We shall meet again.” Ren says and leaves.

In the mean time, Miroku and Shippo and sit down to eat their fish. While InuKame and Koki circle them...lost it would seem.

“ That must’ve been the fifth time they’ve circled us by now..” Shippo says, munching his food.

“ Seven times actually.”  Miroku corrects.

‘ I must be lost...but then again I haven’t slept in two days, so that doesn’t help.

Annoyed, InuKame jumps and lands in front of Koki...making him stop dead in his tracks.

“ Will you at least listen to what I have to say?!”

“ Talk.”

“ If what happened back there hurt you, I apologize!” InuKame says, “ It was the kiss, wasn’t it? You’re angry about the fact that I kissed him!”

‘ I forgotten about that..’ Koki thinks and then says, “ You really are dense, aren’t you?  You really don’t get it, do you? After what you said to me! How could you tell Ren that you’ve never stopped thinking about him?! Which is the truth?!” Koki asks.

“ They’re both true.” InuKame answers.

“ Eh?!” Koki really wasn’t expecting that as an answer. ‘ He’s a two-timer..?!’ he says in his head.

Miroku and Shippo were watching from a hill nearby.

“ Whoa, he’s lost his steam.” the fox says.

“ Rule two: Just because its true doesn’t mean you should say it.” the monk says.

InuKame doesn’t meet Koki’s eyes but says, “ For fifty years, Ren’s soul has wandered..unable to break free of this haunted world. He wouldn’t have met that fate..If I’d simply been able to trust him, the way I do you. How can you expect me to forget that?” InuKame explains.

With his back to the half demon Koki says, “ I’m going to ask you one final question. Am I..just Ren’s replacement?” he yawns.

“ What?! I told you before you weren’t. Since you’re stubborn, yes. Maybe at the very beginning I thought you looked like him...acted like him even smelled like him. But now that I know you, to me you are only you. Your scent..is gentler than his and it calms me.” InuKame answers back. ‘ He’s going to stay with me..!’ the half demon thinks. “ Koki..I like being around you, why do you think I get impatient when you go through the well.”

“ InuKame...” Koki says before nodding off.

InuKame felt Koki’s body go limp against his. He turns around and catches Koki’s sleeping body before its the ground. He picks him up and carries him back to their campsite, lays him by the fire and covers him with his cloak. InuKame knows Koki’s exhausted and their fight and encounter with Ren didn’t help any, he lets Koki sleep only leaving him long enough to grab his backpack from where he left it. He takes the jewel shard and places it around his neck until Koki wakes up.
