After a brief stop in his own time period, so he can stay caught up on his rent, bills, laundry and work, he restocks his food, medical supplies and clean clothes. On his way back to the old well, he runs into Riku who was excited about something.

“ Koki!” Riku runs over and hugs the very life from Koki’s body.

“ What’s got you so excited Riku?!” he asks his friend, once Riku let him go.

“ Well, you know how my dad was wanting me to take over his company right?” Koki nods, “ The investors signed off on it and now I’m not only your boss but the new owner as well. My father said that he’s going to stay on for advisory purposes only.” he practically bounces on the balls of his feet.

“ That’s great Riku, I’m happy for you.” Koki congratulates his friend.

“ It seems I’m going to need a Jr partner, Koki. My father is looking for someone trustworthy enough to sign over my mother’s half of the company too. Since my brother is incarcerated and he had no interest in the business anyway, I was wondering if you would help us run it.” Riku asks, looking hopeful.

“ It would be nice to not have to worry about money and losing my job, but I like designing things and with me not being at work all the time...” Koki gets cut off.

“ Its nothing to worry about, surprisingly enough, my father believes your story. I told him where you’ve been going and he even told me the legend surrounding that old well. So your job was never in any danger. You can still work where you’re at currently, I wasn’t going to move you just make the head of that department...so will you Koki? Besides, you can show your family what you’ve become and how well you’re doing without them and help your sister, Kara, take care of your nephews..financially speaking.” Riku adds.

“ Okay, Riku, I’ll do it. I’ll help you and your dad out, he’s helped me so much already,  I can repay him for some of the kindness he’s shown me over the years. Do I need to sign anything now or..” Koki accepts the offer gratefully.

In answer Riku pulls out the stack of papers Koki needed to sign. After an hour and a half, he’s finally done and after bidding his friend farewell, he finally gets the chance to jump down the old well. He reappears in InuKame’s time to a very annoyed half demon and one amused monk and fox demon.

“ What’s got you so annoyed?” Koki asks InuKame.

“ You came back, I sent you home for a reason Koki.” InuKame answers and they start bickering like a married couple. Though secretly InuKame’s sort of glad Koki’s back, he feels calmer when the human’s around...more in control of himself and, now that he’s gotten to know Koki....he no longer sees Koki as Ren but as Koki.

“ They’re fighting again.” Shippo says from Miroku’s shoulder.

“ No, they’re making up.” the monk corrects walking away, causing InuKame and Koki to glare at his back.

With Miroku out of ear shot, Koki asks angrily.“ Do you really still hate me that much? With what happened to you happened fifty years ago, are you wounds still that fresh?”

InuKame says nothing and just glares back at him. Getting fed up with the half-demon’s attitude, Koki picks up his back pack and walks back to the old well.

“ You want me to leave and not come back...fine. I’ll go, but I’m taking the jewel shard half we have back with me.” Koki says and climbs on the well and jumps in. The well glows for a bit and then he’s gone.

InuKame just stares at the spot where Koki was minutes before as Miroku walks back over.

“ Where’s Koki?” he asks.

“ He went back and took the shard with him.” InuKame says and walks away.

“ But aren’t you going after him, InuKame?” Shippo asks and receives a bop on the head in answer.

Back in his own time, Koki stashes the back pack in the bushes behind the well. He walks around the park for a bit, trying to clear his head. But the memory of Riku’s question just fogs his brain even more.

‘ It doesn’t matter what I feel, not really. All he sees is Ren and the one he longs for isn’t me...its “ him” and that will never change. I tried to show him that Ren and I are two separate people, despite me being his reincarnation.’ he thinks sadly and his temper rises at that. Koki walks by the tree that he found InuKame sitting in the night he came back for him, he smiles at the memory and keeps walking.

Unbeknownst to Koki, InuKame followed him and is waiting by the old well. He was sure Koki would come back eventually, he left the back pack there. Koki comes back to the well, but doesn’t notice the half-demon sitting in the tree above him. He grabs that back pack and slings it on his shoulder and starts for home...when a familiar voice catches his ear, he stops and turns around.

“ Why did you leave?” InuKame asks jumping from the tree he was perched in.

“ What are you asking me for? You’re the one that told me not to come back anymore, so I left.” Koki responds as InuKame gets closer, “ You’re the one that doesn’t want me around so don’t come seeking answers that you, yourself, can answer. I came back, even though you told me to stay away because, whether you like it or not, I care about what happens to you.” Koki admits, still the half demon says nothing.

Koki pulls the shard from around his neck and walks back to InuKame.

“ Here. Take it. Its all you ever cared about anyway and its caused me nothing but pain.” Koki whispers in InuKame’s ear as he hangs it around the half demon’s neck.

InuKame looks down at the jewel half and then back up at Koki.

“ Koki...” Was all he said as he watches Koki’s retreating back, neither one realizing Riku was still in the park.

InuKame just stands in the middle of the park, he doesn’t know what to do. InuKame just sits on the well, lost in his own thoughts...when a voice brings him out of his revery.

“ He really does care about you, you know? But according to him, all you ever see is someone else who was once very important to you. They aren’t the same person, InuKame. Ren is Ren and Koki is Koki, though they look, and for the most are, just a like. Koki isn’t the type to go back on the promises, spoken or not, that he makes. He made a promise to you to help you find the shards, even if it means that you’ll never feel for him what he feels for you.”  Riku says, walking over to InuKame.

“ Oh, you’re that annoying friend of his. What do you know about it?” InuKame asks.

“ I only know what he’s willing to tell me and I’ve known Koki his whole life.  He understands the pain of being abandoned by those who say they care for you. In his case....his family, only his sister Kara, her two sons and his little brother ever have anything to do with him anymore..the others no longer let him be a part of the family. To them he was never born, they burned all records of his birth, save one. Which he tore apart his parents house looking for before he came to stay with me and my family...all over that stupid jewel you wear. As I’m sure you know, his older brother gave it to him and said that it was his birthday gift, then he killed himself. By today’s standards it was worth a mint and his family wanted to sell it after Kazunaro died but Koki wouldn’t give it to them.”   He explains.

“ Why tell me all this?” InuKame asks, still fiddling with jewel half around his neck.

“ Because Koki’s like a brother and I care about him, and so do you if I’m not mistaken. Stop pushing him away so much, he knows you’ve been hurt before and he understands why you would want to keep your distance, but even he needs to know for sure what he is to you. I’d wager that’s why he left that accursed jewel in your care. What is Koki to you?” Riku asks and then walks away leaving the half demon to answer that question for himself.

Koki, thinking InuKame went back to his own time, unlocks his apartment and drops the bag by the door. He goes to take a shower, he got as far as taking his t-shirt and socks off when he hears a voice from his living room window, the voice was calling his name. He walks into his living room and sees InuKame standing on his small balcony.

“ Oh its you. I gave you the jewel and I’m staying here. So, why are you here?” Koki asks.

“ You. You’re wrong, I don’t hate you nor do I see you as Ren. I did in the beginning but the more time I spent with you, the more I got to see what makes you two different. Its funny, you managed to do what, up until now, only my mother could do. Not even Ren was able to do such a thing.” InuKame says.

“ Which is?” Koki asks.

“ You make me feel calmer, more in control of myself. You aren’t Ren....you never were, I see that now.  Your friend is right in that I push you away, but he also said you understood it. I like being around you.” InuKame answers, he’s not sure if he can do this again.

“ Then why send me home and tell me not to ever come back?”

“ To protect you.”

“ Even you know that as long that jewel exists, I’m no safer here in my time than in your’s. Besides, you said it yourself...all I am is shard detector.” Koki remembered what InuKame said to Miroku and those words did hurt, maybe more than they should’ve, but he was still hurt.

InuKame winces slightly at Koki’s words. He doesn’t know why he said that, all he knows is that he doesn’t like anyone taking a liking to Koki in any way that would take Koki from him. Maybe Koki is right and he was jealous, but he still won’t admit to being such a thing. Koki starts going to the bathroom.

“ Come back with me, Koki.” Koki stops and turns to face InuKame.

“ Why?” Koki asks walking forward, “ Why should I? You can find the things on your own.”

“ Because.”

“ Because why?” Koki asks again.

“ I need you to, Koki. I....” The half demon admits.

“ Okay, I’ll come back with you. Just let me shower first, alright?” Koki says and InuKame nods.

“ Wait a sec.” InuKame takes the jewel off and holds it out to Koki, “ Take it. It was your’s by right and I want the person that’s becoming more important to me than I thought he would...to hold onto it. Besides, at least I know you won't run off with it.”

" You still don't trust Miroku and Shippo." Koki says, InuKame nods yes.

Smiling Koki walks over and takes the jewel from InuKame, and puts it around his neck. After showing InuKame how to work the tv remote and not break it, he tells him he won’t be long and if anyone comes to the door just tell them that he’s too busy to be disturbed. InuKame agrees and allows Koki to take his shower. Ten minutes go by and InuKame starts wondering where in the hell Koki got off to. He heads in the direction he saw Koki go and sees the bathroom door slightly open. He pushes it open a little further and that’s when he sees Koki’s naked form as he’s getting dressed. InuKame’s heart thuds and he feels his body react in a way it hasn’t for many years, Koki, with his back to the bathroom door, continues to dress...not realizing that InuKame’s standing on the other side just staring at him. Its only when Koki looks up and clears the bathroom mirror of the condensation that formed, does he notice his audience.

“ Oh hey InuKame. Just give me another minute or so and I’ll be done.” Koki smiles, InuKame nods though he doesn’t tear his eyes away from the way Koki’s back muscles move fluidly under his damp skin.

Koki gets done changing and walks out the bathroom door. He puts his socks and shoes on, turns off the tv and grabs his back pack. After he puts the three months rent check under the door of his landlord's apartment, him and InuKame head back to the old well.

“ Why do you give that human so much money?” The half demon asks.

“ If I don’t he’ll kick me out of my apartment and since I’m gone for three months at a time, I set it up to where I can pay my landlord three months rent in advance and Riku makes sure my other bills are paid on time.” Koki answers.

They get back to the well and jump in. No sooner does Koki climb out of the well does Shippo fly at him, happy to see him and to tell on InuKame.

“ Koki! He hit me!” Shippo says and points to InuKame, sticking his tongue out at him.

“ InuKame...” Koki starts and the half demon flinches, expecting to be told to sit, “ Why did you hit him? He’s alot younger than you.” he asks instead.

“ He annoyed me, that’s why.” InuKame answers.

Koki sighs and instead of telling InuKame to sit, he decides to overlook the half demons behavior after their conversation in his apartment. Koki knew InuKame admitting to the things he did was hard for him, so he decided to give him a break...this time.

“ Try to have more patience with him, please InuKame?” Koki asks and gets a typical ‘ Whatever’ response from InuKame.

“ That’s it! He hits me and you’re not going to tell him to ‘sit’?” Shippo asks outraged.

“ Just leave it alone, Shippo, Koki has his reasons, I’m sure.” Miroku says, he has an idea that Koki and InuKame had a pretty heavy talk that was hard on both of them, especially InuKame.

“ Shall we get going then. I have jewel shards to track down.” InuKame cuts in and drags Koki away. The monk and little fox demon follow the pair.

Meanwhile Sesshomaru crosses paths with the very demon that destroyed InuKame’s trust in people fifty years ago...Naraku.

“ Well, well, if it isn’t the great Lord Sesshomaru.” Naraku says.

“ What do you want?” Sesshomaru asks.

“ Its not me who desires something, its you. You desire the sword Tetsusaiga that was left by your father. But you can’t seem to defeat the person whose possession its in...not with only one arm. I’ll tell you what, I’ll give you this arm to use as your own so you can get back what’s rightfully yours.” Naraku says making an arm appear on Sesshomaru’s body where his missing arm once was.

“ And in return?” Sesshomaru asks but finds that Naraku has vanished.

Sesshomaru heads out to find InuKame and to get his sword back, not realizing that he’s been deceived by Naraku and that arm, not only holds a jewel shard but it will eventually fall off of its own accord. While Sesshomaru is trying to find InuKame, Koki senses another shard some 20 miles away from where they were resting.

“ InuKame, I sense another one. Its 20 miles from here but...” Koki says.

“ But...what? What is it?” Miroku asks.

“ Its getting closer.” Koki says, sensing the strength and then weakness of the shard’s presence.

“ Are you sure Koki?” Shippo asks.

“ Of course he is!” InuKame says before Koki can answer.

Then the wind changes and their fire goes out. Shippo hides behind Miroku’s leg when the unknown owner of the shard makes himself known.

“ Well, well, if it isn’t my mangy brother. What do you want, Sesshomaru?” InuKame asks.

“ You know perfectly well what I’m here for.” Sesshomaru says, and attacking InuKame.

“ Just give it up! You can’t beat me!” InuKame growls pulling Tetsusiaga from its sheath and trying to block but with the strength and new power of his new arm...he knocks InuKame to the ground.

“ InuKame!” Koki shouts and runs over.

InuKame stands up, he’s bleeding from his lip.

“ Do you like it brother? My new arm. With this arm I will defeat you and take back what’s rightfully mine!” Sesshomaru shouts bearing down on InuKame.

While the brothers are fighting, Koki keeps his eyes on Sesshomaru and that’s when he sees the shard he sensed earlier...its in the demon’s arm that was attached to the right shoulder, where his arm used to be. He’s got to warn InuKame, Koki shouts to try and gain InuKame’s attention. He finally does.

“ InuKame! That shard I sensed earlier! Its in his new arm!” InuKame nods and tries to take the arm off. But Sesshomaru is too strong and too fast with shard he’s carrying with him.

Koki picks up his bow and arrows. He loads one, when Shippo runs over to stop him.

“ Koki....don’t! The demon will kill you!”

“ I know, he’s already tried that once before. But at this rate he’ll kill InuKame and I won’t allow that to happen.” Koki says as he takes aim at InuKame’s brother.

“ Sesshomaru! Say goodbye to your arm...again!”  Koki shouts after seeing InuKame fall to the ground, blood dripping from his chest.

He sends the arrow flying and hits his mark dead on, InuKame was right...he has gotten better with this thing. The jewel, now purified, makes the arm fall from the demon’s body. Angry and bleeding, Sesshomaru leaves the group in peace. Koki runs over to help InuKame.

“ Let’s go Koki, I’ll be fine.” InuKame protests, “ I heal fast remember.”

“ I know but this wound is different than last time.” Koki tells him and while the two are fighting, Miroku picks up the shard and walks over to Koki.

“ The jewel shard that was in the arm.” Miroku says, interrupting Koki’s and InuKame’s bickering and placing the shard in Koki’s hand. An action that makes InuKame irritated with the monk..again.

“ Thanks Miroku.” Koki says and adds to the half around his neck.

“ Hey! I told you not to touch him!” InuKame shouts, Koki and Shippo just chuckle.

Koki packs his back pack back up and they head off in the direction that Sesshomaru fled in.
