Kame tries his best during school without Koki there. Their friends try their best to fill Koki’s role of making feel safe and relaxed and he’s grateful for that, they even listen to his nightmares like Koki did. But everyone knows that for Kame its just not the same and it won’t be until Koki comes out of his coma and his memory of the accident completely returns. Keto, who’s known the couple the longest, knows that Kame’s worst fear is that he might remember everything while Koki’s not here to help him through it all. Reio’s glad Koki’s not around but he still can’t get close to his love interest without at least 4 other guys around him at any given time.
Things got so bad that Kame’s coach has forced him to skip practice, seeing as his star player is no good to him without Koki being around...even if its just three fields away. His coach is praying for Koki to wake up soon cause he really doesn’t want to kick Kame from his team, not with the championship game coming up in a month and he shares Kame’s passion for the game. Reio finally gets his chance to be close to Kame, since Keto hasn’t shown up yet to walk with him back to his car.
“ Kamenashi-chan!” Reio jogs over to where Kame was waiting for his friend.
Kame jumps at the sound of his name, at first he thinks its Koki but realizes its just Reio. Disappointment mixed with fear, anxiety, and annoyance with Reio...Kame texts Keto asking him to hurry up.
“ What do you want?” Kame asks just as Reio stops in front of him.
“ I was just wondering how you’re doing and to see if Tanaka-chan has woken up yet?”
“ Anyone ever tell you how much of an annoyance you are, or am I the first? I’m not breaking things off with my boyfriend just go out with an irksome fly like you.” Kame snorts as Ren walks over.
“ Hey Kazu. Ready to go?” Ren asks, shooting a Reio a glare, while placing his arm around Kame’s shoulders.
“ Sure. But where’s Keto he was supposed to come over?” Kame asks, not bothering to shake Ren from his shoulders since he kinda knows what Ren’s trying to do.
“ Oh he had to take his little brother to the doctor, the kid twisted his ankle or something. Besides, its your boyfriend’s job to get you not his.” he answers with smirk in Reio’s direction, who both were pleased to see stalk off.
Once they were sure Reio was gone, Ren vacated Kame’s shoulders while the two walk back to Kame’s car, Kame asks Ren what that was all about.
“ Oh just trying to help you out with that Hikaru kid, that’s all. I’m straight remember? I just hope Koki doesn’t kill me for that.”
“ Don’t worry about your captain, I’ll explain things to him and tell him it was my idea..not yours. He might be jealous but other than that I doubt he’ll do anything to you that’s harmful. Thanks Ren, I appreciate what you and the others are doing for me but its just...”
“ Its not the same with us as it is with Koki, huh?” Ren cuts him off, Kame just nods. “ We know that Kame, but we wouldn’t be your friends if we didn’t want to try and help you. While none of us, not even Koki, can fully understand what you’re going through...we do what we can to help. Though there are some things that we won’t do since Koki’s the only that fulfill that end of things, we can still help you in other ways. Well, I’ll see you later, Kazu. Let me know when he wakes up.” Ren leaves Kame at his car and goes back to his own to head home.
Kame gets home and after dropping his stuff in his room, he heads into the kitchen to get a drink.
“ Hey Kame.” Mrs. Tanaka greets as he walks in.
“ Oh hey Ann.”
“ I know I’m not your real mother and I won’t try to take her place, but you know you can call me mom if you want too.” she says.
“ I know but I’m going out with Koki...wouldn’t that be just a tad weird?”
“ Not really, just think of it as practice for when you two get married.” she says with a wink, causing Kame to blush slightly. “ Do you want to come to the hospital with me today?”
“ I would love too, but that jerk of a doctor won’t let me see him, remember.”
“ It will be fine, now go upstairs and take a shower. We leave in twenty minutes.” she shoos Kame upstairs.
Kame comes down ten minutes later and after grabbing his jacket, they head to the hospital see Koki. Kame stops at the door, he wants to go in but he also doesn’t want to see his lover like just lying there and not moving. After a gentle nudge from Koki’s mom, Kame quietly walks up to the bed, pulling the nearest chair closer to sit down.
“ Koki...please wake up. I miss you and I really can’t do this without you, sugar.” His voice is quiet and pathetic but he can’t help it, he links his fingers with Koki’s in the small but vain hope that he would wake up if he felt Kame’s hand in his.
Koki’s mom just leaves the two of them alone, while she heads off to work. Kame starts telling Koki about all the stuff he’s been missing at school and that his soccer team won their first two matches of the play offs. He also tells him that he hasn’t really been playing much baseball since the accident and that his memories are returning piece by piece a lot sooner than he thought they would. That he’s trying his best to make it through school and that their friends are doing the best they can to help but its still hard without him there.
“ I need you to wake up Koki. Without you to tell my nightmares too, I feel like I’m going through this alone and I hate it.” he says as tears start to fall, hitting Koki’s hand. “ I absolutely hate it, Koki.”
Its around midnight when Kame’s woken up by someone running their fingers through his hair, thinking its just Koki’s mom he ignores it and goes back to sleep. Its only when the owner of said fingers speak does he lift his head.
“ At least you’re trying, baby.” Koki’s voice is low and raw from being out for so long.
“ K-Koki?” Kame asks, he questions his hearing and eye sight.
“ Yes, love and n-no you’re not dreaming.” he says with a smile.
“ You’re awake! My wish came true after all, I’m so happy....hang on I’ll get the nurse on call.” Kame runs to get the nurse, bumping into Koki’s dad on the way.
“ Nurse! Nurse! He’s awake...Koki woke up!” Kame says excitedly.
While the nurse goes to check, Koki’s dad double checks what he just heard. Kame tells him that its true and the Koki just woke up a minute ago. They both run back to Koki’s room as the nurse leaves to contact Koki’s doctor. Unbeknownst to Kame, they fired the other doctor for one more compassionate towards Kame’s and Koki’s circumstances. That and Kame’s therapist told the doctor himself that Kame can’t separated from Koki for too long, as it will hinder Kame’s healing process.
“ Son! You’re awake! Your mom is going to be so happy. We really missed you and Kame’s been going through hell without you. But we’re just glad you’re alive and conscious.” He goes to call his wife, while Kame stays next to Koki’s bedside as the doctor comes in.
“ Hey Tanaka-chan. How are you feeling?” He asks, checking Koki’s vision with his pen light..satisfied that his pupils dilated normally. “ Do you remember what happened?”
“ My head hurts but other wise okay.” he grins up at Kame, “ I was pulling out of the parking lot when some idiot ran into the front of my car but after that its all kinda fuzzy. Can I sit up for a bit?”
“ Yeah sure.” The doctor lifts the top end of the bed so Koki’s not laying flat on his back. “ Well, you rest up for the night and tomorrow I want to get a CT ran and then if every thing checks out alright then you maybe able to go home.”
“Thanks doc.” Turning to Kame he asks, “ Hey Kazu do me a favor? My legs are stiff, wanna rub them for me?” he slowly stretches the stiffness from his muscles.
Kame sits at the foot of Koki’s bed, gently rubs Koki’s legs. Sighing happily he turns to his dad asks if Kame can stay here tonight or does he have to go home. His dad allows Kame to stay on the condition that he sleeps in the other bed, and not in Koki’s. Kame agrees and he leaves the two love birds alone for the rest of night, but not before telling Kame that he left his dinner on the table by Koki’s bed. They stay up late talking and eating Kame’s dinner, they don’t fall asleep until three in the morning..Kame makes good on his promise and sleeps in the other bed inside Koki’s room.
The next afternoon the doctor comes in and tells Koki that the swelling has disappeared and that he can go home, but he still can’t play soccer until that bandage comes off. Pouting slightly at Kame he thanks the doctor while Kame texts Ren the good news and what the doctor said about soccer.
Its been three weeks since Koki was released from the hospital and his head healed in no time flat, which is a good thing too since Kame was getting “restless” for want of a better term and doing that with Koki’s head injury really isn’t the best way for his head to heal. One night Kame fell asleep while they were watching some silly b-rated horror movie, feeling Kame’s breathing even out next to him...Koki gently wakes him up and leads up to their room for the night. Its two in the morning when Kame wakes up screaming for his real mom, instead of Koki’s mom.
“ Kame...what’s wrong?” Koki asks noticing the tears falling from Kame’s eyes.
“ I r-remember...everything. The drive home...the truck’s head lights as it came closer, the crash and me trying desperately to wake them up. But no one did, Koki...they just laid there, no moving. I think that’s when I blocked everything but the fact that they were dead from my memory.” he cries into Koki’s neck, unable to finish since the details were just horrible, just as their parents come in after hearing Kame screaming.
“ Its okay, baby. You’ll be alright.”
“ We heard Kazuya screaming, is everything alright?” his dad asks.
“ His memories of the accident finally came to the surface. I’m not sure but I think my car accident may have had a hand in bringing them to the surface finally.” Koki answers while Kame just clutches tighter to his boyfriend. “ You guys can go back to bed, I’ll handle Kazu. I doubt very much if he’ll let either one of you pull him away from me anyway.”
After telling Kame that they are down the hall if he needs them, they leave Kame in Koki’s hands and head back to bed. With difficulty Koki lays Kame back down, Kame still hasn’t let him go, and rubs small circles on his back while Kame just cries his heart out. He soon settles down long enough to clear his nose, before snuggling closer to Koki.
“ Hey, I know you probably don’t feel any better but are you alright...even a little?” Koki asks.
“ Since I now know exactly what happened...it feels like I don’t have to be afraid any more. I know it doesn’t make any sense, but its true. I love you Koki, with all my heart. Just because I remember doesn’t mean that our closeness or my wanting to spend the majority of time with you will change. You will always be the only person in this world that can make me feel safe and secure, I will want no one but you from now until the day we both leave this world.” Kame said, and now it was Koki’s turn to tear up because everything that Kame said was a secret fear he’s been carrying around with him this whole time.
“ Kame..” was all Koki could say as his voice was somewhere near his liver, though he hugged Kame tighter.
After a while they both fell asleep and didn’t wake up again until their alarm went off for school. After a quick shower they head down stairs for breakfast for just the two of them since Koki’s parents had already left for work. When they’re done they head to Kame’s car since Koki has to by another one, as his was damaged beyond repair. When they get to school and their lockers, Kame sees a flower taped to his locker with a note from Reio.
“This kid just doesn’t give up, does he?” Kame asked.
“ No. I have an idea, after school about we....” he whispers his plan in Kame’s ear as a teacher just happened to walk by.
Kame agrees with the hope that after this Reio will leave him the fuck alone. Through out the school day, Koki and Kame spread the word to their friends on the soccer team and Keto and Wataru. At lunch time, Reio gives Kame another flower right in front of Ren and Koki. The trio just smiles and walks away, Kame still holding the flower only long enough to throw it in the trash when they’re out sight. Kame tells Keto to have Reio meet him on the soccer field after school before the team’s practice starts, he nods and go goes to track the kid down.
Its two in the afternoon when Reio shows up at the soccer field to meet Kame, only to find about a half a dozen guys standing around Kame..Koki and Keto included. Wataru didn’t want to come since he is friends with Reio and as well as half the guys there.
“ Hey Kamenashi-chan...you wanted me to meet you here.”
“ Yes, remember when I told you repeatedly that I had a boyfriend and that I wasn’t able to return your feelings?” Reio just nods, “ I brought you here so you two could finally meet.”
“ But I met him already.” he says and points to Ren who, along with Koki, just giggled.
“ Its not Ren. Reio this is the guy I was talking about.” Kame says as Koki puts his arm around Kame’s shoulders.
“ I-I don’t believe you...you’re lying!” he stutters.
“ I told you repeatedly to stop chasing Kame.” Koki says.
“ Its not a lie, Reio. If you want proof then I’m sure Koki and Kame would be happy to give you some.” Keto said.
“ Okay...if you two are going out, then prove it.” Reio challenges.
“ How, exactly, would you like that to happen?” Kou asks.
Reio turns his gaze back on Koki and Kame, “ Kiss each other, the way lovers do.” he smirks slightly thinking that neither the captain of the soccer team or the captain of the baseball team will have the guts to do it, at least not in front of their friends and team mates.
“ Okay, why not.” Kame says.
“ I’ve wanted to do this on school property anyway.”
Koki pulls Kame closer and locks lips with him right there in front of their friends and Reio, slipping his tongue inside Kame’s mouth as he deepens the kiss..giving Reio the kiss he asked for. They pull back for some much needed air, while their friends are still cat calling and whistling. They turn to face a heart broken Reio with smiles on their faces, he turns and runs away...his heart breaking into a million pieces as he does so.
“ That wasn’t the best way to do that but he wouldn’t listen other wise.” Ren said as Koki and the team start practice, while Kame and Keto watch.
“ Hey Kame? So how long have the two of you kissed before?” Keto asks, since it seemed like both Koki and Kame could’ve stood there doing that for at least an hour.
“ Hmm....I think our best record is two hours non stop. He’s a great kisser what can I say.” Kame says with a shrug, while Keto just stares at him in disbelieve.
Later that after evening they’re lying in bed naked and sweaty, having the house to themselves since Koki’s parents are out of town on business. Kame lifts himself on one elbow and says...
“ I’m glad I finally remember, Koki. Now I can fully move on with my life with you, without having any extra weight on my shoulders.”
“ Me too, Kame. Equally, I’m glad Reio has finally left you alone. While that really was an evil way to make our point and I do regret doing things that way, but he needed to learn the hard way.”
“ I know what you mean. I love you Koki.” Kame leans in to plant a kiss on Koki’s still swollen lips.
“ I love you too, Kazu.” he smiles and places a hand on Kame’s neck as their lips meet. Kame deepens the kiss this time, causing both of them to moan...starting round two.
They make love repeatedly that night. Its four in the morning before they both fall asleep with satisfied smiles on their faces, not just from their activity but also from the fact that Kame can now sleep at night without suffering terrible nightmares...and now since Kame remembers he can fully heal from what happened to him seven years ago. With Koki by his side once again he no longer feels any fear.

When they get to school and their lockers, Kame sees a flower taped to his locker with a note from Reio.
“This kid just doesn’t give up, does he?” Kame asked.
“ No. I have an idea, after school about we....” he whispers his plan in Kame’s ear as a teacher just happened to walk by.
Kame agrees with the hope that after this Reio will leave him the fuck alone. Through out the school day, Koki and Kame spread the word to their friends on the soccer team and Keto and Wataru. At lunch time, Reio gives Kame another flower right in front of Ren and Koki. The trio just smiles and walks away, Kame still holding the flower only long enough to throw it in the trash when they’re out sight. Kame tells Keto to have Reio meet him on the soccer field after school before the team’s practice starts, he nods and go goes to track the kid down.
Its two in the afternoon when Reio shows up at the soccer field to meet Kame, only to find about a half a dozen guys standing around Kame..Koki and Keto included. Wataru didn’t want to come since he is friends with Reio and as well as half the guys there.
“ Hey Kamenashi-chan...you wanted me to meet you here.”
“ Yes, remember when I told you repeatedly that I had a boyfriend and that I wasn’t able to return your feelings?” Reio just nods, “ I brought you here so you two could finally meet.”
“ But I met him already.” he says and points to Ren who, along with Koki, just giggled.
“ Its not Ren. Reio this is the guy I was talking about.” Kame says as Koki puts his arm around Kame’s shoulders.
“ I-I don’t believe you...you’re lying!” he stutters.
“ I told you repeatedly to stop chasing Kame.” Koki says.
“ Its not a lie, Reio. If you want proof then I’m sure Koki and Kame would be happy to give you some.” Keto said.
“ Okay...if you two are going out, then prove it.” Reio challenges.
“ How, exactly, would you like that to happen?” Kou asks.
Reio turns his gaze back on Koki and Kame, “ Kiss each other, the way lovers do.” he smirks slightly thinking that neither the captain of the soccer team or the captain of the baseball team will have the guts to do it, at least not in front of their friends and team mates.
“ Okay, why not.” Kame says.
“ I’ve wanted to do this on school property anyway.”
Koki pulls Kame closer and locks lips with him right there in front of their friends and Reio, slipping his tongue inside Kame’s mouth as he deepens the kiss..giving Reio the kiss he asked for. They pull back for some much needed air, while their friends are still cat calling and whistling. They turn to face a heart broken Reio with smiles on their faces, he turns and runs away...his heart breaking into a million pieces as he does so.
“ That wasn’t the best way to do that but he wouldn’t listen other wise.” Ren said as Koki and the team start practice, while Kame and Keto watch.
“ Hey Kame? So how long have the two of you kissed before?” Keto asks, since it seemed like both Koki and Kame could’ve stood there doing that for at least an hour.
“ Hmm....I think our best record is two hours non stop. He’s a great kisser what can I say.” Kame says with a shrug, while Keto just stares at him in disbelieve.
Later that after evening they’re lying in bed naked and sweaty, having the house to themselves since Koki’s parents are out of town on business. Kame lifts himself on one elbow and says...
“ I’m glad I finally remember, Koki. Now I can fully move on with my life with you, without having any extra weight on my shoulders.”
“ Me too, Kame. Equally, I’m glad Reio has finally left you alone. While that really was an evil way to make our point and I do regret doing things that way, but he needed to learn the hard way.”
“ I know what you mean. I love you Koki.” Kame leans in to plant a kiss on Koki’s still swollen lips.
“ I love you too, Kazu.” he smiles and places a hand on Kame’s neck as their lips meet. Kame deepens the kiss this time, causing both of them to moan...starting round two.
They make love repeatedly that night. Its four in the morning before they both fall asleep with satisfied smiles on their faces, not just from their activity but also from the fact that Kame can now sleep at night without suffering terrible nightmares...and now since Kame remembers he can fully heal from what happened to him seven years ago. With Koki by his side once again he no longer feels any fear.
