Note: I decided to make this a series One-Shot.
Its been three days and Kame’s memories have started to come back so fast that he’s had glad that its spring break, as it gives him time to try and get back to normal again. Of course having Koki near always helps and he’s grateful for that and he’s not sure if he’d ever recover if anything seriously bad would ever happen to Koki, and Kame prays he never has to find out...if only fate wasn’t so evil.
“ Hey Koki?” his mom calls from the kitchen.
“ Yeah?”
“ While Kame’s taking a nap, can you run to the store for me? I forgot some stuff when I was there the other day.”
“Sure thing. If he wakes up while I’m gone have him call my cell, since he’ll probably start freaking out.”
“ His nightmare last night was that bad huh?” his dad asks after coming in from pruning the bushes.
“ Yeah, well I’ll get going now.” his mom hands him a list of what she needs, along with money to pay for it and after giving Kame quick kiss on the top of his head ( he fell asleep on the couch), Koki climbs in his car and leaves. He's pulling out of the parking lot when it happens.
An hour later Kame starts tossing and turning, unable to wake up from another one of his nightmares...this time it involves Koki.
“ Un..K-Koki....come back...please..no..don’t...go...KOKI!!!” He wakes up screaming causing Koki’s parents to coming running in.
“ Kazuya! Are you alright?” they say in unison, noticing Kame’s shirt was drenched in sweat and he was shaking like mad.
“ K-Koki...w-where is he? He’s not...?” Kame was scared now, usually Koki’s always there when he wakes up.
“ Its okay, Kame. I just sent Koki to the store for me, he’ll back soon. He wants you to call him since you’re awake.” She says before her and Mr. Tanaka head back into the kitchen.
Reaching for his phone Kame does just that. It rings and rings, but there’s still no answer until the cool voice says that the person you’re trying to reach is out of the service area. He hangs up and tries again, letting it ring until he gets the same message...frustrated he hangs up and dials Koki’s cell again and again no answer. He’s so freaked out from his dream and the fact Koki’s not answering his calls, he realizes that something must have happened since Koki rarely ever ignores Kame’s calls without good reason, and even then he always calls him back.
“ Did you talk to him, son?” Mr. Tanaka asks, coming in to check on Kame.
“ He-he’s not answering.”
“ Maybe his hands are full or his phone died.”
“ No...something’s wrong. He always keeps his phone charged so I can get a hold of him and he always calls or texts me back.” Kame doesn't move from the couch trying not to let the worst thoughts creep into his brain.
Six hours go by and then the phone rings and Koki’s mom answers it.
“ Hello? Yes, this she.”
“ Ma’am, this officer Hatanaka. Your son Tanaka Koki was involved in a car accident. He’s been taken to County Memorial for treatment.” the officer explains.
“Th-thank you. We’ll be right there.” She hangs up and goes into the living room where her husband and Kame were, not wanting to break the news to Kame about Koki.
“ Who was that on the phone dear?” her husband asks.
“ Um, it was the cops. Kame...I don’t know how to tell you this but...?”
“ What is it? What’s the matter?” her husband asks again.
Kame, who can read people as easily as a children’s book, knows exactly what she’s going to say. He knows its bad and knows its about his boyfriend, he’s not sure if he wants to hear it either, but he sits and just waits until she’s able to talk again.
“ Kame...there’s been accident and Koki’s been taken to the hospital.” she presses out.
“ No...you’re lying! He’s going to come back...he always does. He’ll walk through that door any minute!” Kame shouts.
“ Kazuya, listen to me. Its true...all of it, I’m sorry but Koki won’t be home for a while.” She tries to reason but Kame still refuses to accept the truth.
“ We can prove it to you.” Koki’s dad says and drags Kame to the car, taking him to the hospital to prove that Koki is, in fact, there.
An hour later they are walking up to the Nurse’s desk and asks about their son, she points to a room down the hall and with Kame in tow they head to Koki’s room. Kame wasn’t prepared for what he saw when he looked through the window to his boyfriend’s room. There was Koki, just like their parents said, lying unconscious five feet away, with an I.V in one arm and a bloody bandage wrapped around his head.
“ KOKI!!” Kame runs into the room, grabs the nearest chair and sits there as hot, spicy tears form in the corner of his eyes. “ Please wake up.” his voice was nothing more than whisper, not realizing the doctor had shown up.
“ Excuse me, are you Hiro and Ann Tanaka?”
“ Yes. What happened Doctor?” She asks, never taking her eyes from her son.
“ Well, those who just happened to witness the accident said that he was ran into as he was pulling out of the store’s parking lot. The driver of the other car was speeding around the corner and I guess he didn’t see your son and ran ahead on into him and then sped off like nothing happened. Its a good thing he was wearing his seat belt, if he wasn’t then he wouldn’t have survived that accident. He can only have immediate family as visitors until he wakes up.”
“ So that means that...?”
“ That means that he -the doctor points at Kame, who had turned around when the doctor was telling them what happened- can’t be here, not until his friend wakes up anyway.”
“ Can’t you make an exception, since they can’t be separated from each other.” Koki’s mom asks.
“ I’m sorry but no.” the doctor says.
Kame doesn’t not like what he heard, they can’t keep him from Koki..they just can’t. First he loses his entire family and now he might lose his boyfriend too..no he can’t allow that to happen. He won’t let the doctor or anyone else keep Koki from him, not now...not ever. He loves Koki and he needs him, just not to help him get over what happened but he needs him because he wants to spend the rest of his life with the guy and maybe have a family as well.
“ Come on Kazu, the doctor said you can’t be in here right now.” Hiro says gently.
“ No...I won’t leave him. He can’t make me!” Kame yells.
“ There’s nothing we can do, Kame, I’m sorry but you have to leave now.” She says with tears in her eyes, neither her or Koki’s dad want to kick Kame out of Koki’s room...but what choice do they have.
“ No...I can’t...I have to stay!” Kame says with angry tears falling from his eyes.
“ Sorry kid, rules are rules.” the doctor says before having security escort an angry and scared Kame from the room and outside..all the while he’s fighting to get back to Koki.
“ You stay with Koki, dear. I’ll take Kame home and do my best to calm him down.” Hiro tells his wife before walking away.
No sooner does Kame get home then he runs up to his and Koki’s room and slams the door shut, refusing to step on toe out of that room until he’s allowed to see Koki again. Its not long before he falls asleep and while he’s asleep Koki’s dad calls the officer back that was first on the scene of his son’s accident. That’s when he’s told that there’s good cause to believe that who ever hit him was drunk and unless the person comes forward then they probably won’t catch them.
Its been a week since Koki’s accident and he still hasn’t woken up, while Kame’s gotten little to no sleep. He’s worried about Koki and he just can’t sleep without Koki’s firm body next to him making him feel safe. The fact that he has school in two days time doesn’t help anything, while he’s stuck at home he tries his best to help Koki’s mom around the house and every time he goes to sleep...more and more of the memory of the accident that killed his parents comes back and without Koki around to listen to his dreams, he feels alone and he hates it. As he’s laying in bed he makes a wish on the stars in the night sky that the love of his life wakes up and comes back to him.
