As Koki watches the people and cars pass by from his roof top perch, he suddenly realizes just how long its been since he was last in this city. He hasn’t stepped foot in Tokyo in 25 years..well technically its been 425 years or was it 625, he wasn’t sure....but he hates lexicology so he never uses it, even though he’s a vampyre he hates counting time the way his kind is accustomed too so he uses human time instead. He can still remember the reason why he fled the city all those years ago and the memory stabs at his heart like a sharp knife, but it annoys him so he pushes it from his mind as he fiddles with the blue pendant around his neck, the red one he used to wear got lost sometime ago.
“ I haven’t been back here in ages.” He thinks to himself as he jumps down to the pavement below and continues on his errand.
Meanwhile, across town Kame and his friend Riku are just leaving work....
“ Hey Kame?” Riku says
“ Why do you always wear that thing, its kinda creepy?” his friend asks, remembering the deep crimson red pendant Kame wears religiously.
“ What? This?” He pulls it out from underneath his shirt.
“ Yeah that.” Is all his friend said.
“ I don’t know, I like it and makes me feel safe for some reason. Why’d you ask?”
“ Just curious, I guess. Hey want to go drinking?” Riku offers.
“ I am sorry, I can’t, I have some work to catch up on” He answers back and smiles, not wanting Riku to find out that his day time job as an office worker is just a cover for his night time job as a part time Vampyre hunter.
“ Alright, well I’ll see ya later then.” Riku says and gets in his car and heads home, as Kame does the same. But while Riku goes home to his wife and new baby, Kame goes home to an empty apartment and an even emptier life.
He unlocks his door and throws himself on his couch wondering how he’s become so alienated from those around him and why he feels so damn trapped in his very existence, he knows something is missing from his life and he gets the feeling that he’s meant for something more but he’s just not sure what it is, or how he’s going to solve this complex yet irritatingly annoying puzzle.
“ Will my life ever change? God, I ask you...what’s missing? Why do I feel so...so..incomplete? So, fucking empty?” he asks and only the silence of his living room answers back. He finally gets up and makes dinner, but as he sits down to eat his door bell rings. Against his better judgment he walks to his to door, opens it and rolls his eyes as the last two people he wanted to meet up with walk past him and into the dinning room..
“ Jin? Maru? What are you two doing here and why?” he asks.
“ Well, ever since I told Maru here about your pendant we have been doing some research and...” Jin said hesitantly and looked to Yuichi to finish since Kame was less likely to blow up at Maru than him.
“ AND we think you should stop wearing it, Kame” Maru said.
“ NOT this again! Will you two just drop it already, its just a stupid pendant...there’s nothing sinister about it!” Kame said exasperated...But try convincing two vampyre hunters that not everything is evil and related to their line of expertise.
“ I am sorry Kame, but look here..its the same one as in this picture.” Jin shoved a picture of a very handsome guy wearing two chains around his neck, one looked very much like the one Kame has, while the other one is the same but its blue...not red, under Kame’s nose as he finished his dinner.
“Your point.” Kame replies while his heart does a funny sort of flip as he looks at the picture.
“ Our point...Kame....is that its rumored that these two necklaces are a part of some prophecy.”
“ Are you two drunk and what does this have to do with me and my necklace anyway?” Kame asks, even though he knows all about the war that’s being waged between humans and vampyres.
“ We’re not drunk, Kame, just listen.. its rumored that should a human wear either the red one or the blue one, he will come under control of the opposing pendant, and then all of mankind will be doomed or he will save mankind.....either way it will cost the bearer his life unless....”
“Unless...what?”
“ Unless the one who has the blue one is killed or he who wears the red one is turned”
“ So, you’re trying to tell me that by wearing this I will either die or become that which you two hunt? Are you both out of your minds...how many times have I told you not to put so much stock into this crap? Really now...you two should really take a vacation sometime.” He says all the while still looking at the picture on his table.
“ That which WE hunt!” Jin yelled in frustration over his friend’s lack of understanding.
“ I don’t hunt them...I just take care of the wounded. You know full well I can’t kill another living creature just because they’re not the same as you and I.”
“ They aren’t human Kame! They don’t deserve to live!” Maru tries to reason.
“ The definition of ‘human’, like all things, is relative, Maru, and I am not taking this off regardless so just give it up.” He says annoyed as he grabs his jacket and cell phone, he’s about to open his door when Jin asks....
“ What happens if you ever come face to face with one? Then what would you do?”
Looking over his shoulder and smirking in Jin’s direction he says.... “ probably let it kill me just so I can escape this life”, with that he’s gone and out the door and into the night.
“Why those two just can’t leave well enough alone is beyond me?” Kame mutters to himself as he sits down in a nearby bar and orders a glass of wine from the bar keep, failing to notice the guy sitting in a darkened corner watching his every move. As the guy watches...he sees two drunks eyeing Kame up and down, sensing they were up to know good, he sits and waits...biding his time....
“ Rough day?” The guy behind the bar asks as he hands Kame his drink.
“ Something like that.” He replies and drains his glass in one go, ordering another he drains the second one in the same manner.
“ Easy there, friend. That’s not the cheap stuff, remember.” The bar tender cautions.
“Its fine..can I ask you something?”
“ Sure”
“ Have you ever felt that you just knew you were meant for something more, but you weren’t sure what it was or how to obtain it?” Kame asks the bar keep.
“ Hmm...me personally? Can’t say that I have. But whatever it is, I am sure you’ll figure it out eventually.”
“ I hope so...its driving me crazy” Kame answers and after paying for his wine, he walks out the door followed by the same two men that were watching him from inside the bar. Lost in his own thoughts he doesn’t notice two people walking behind him until he’s surrounded on both sides.
“ Excuse me? Do you have any spare change?” The guy on his right asks. Looking over Kazu replies....
“ Uh..no, I’m broke.” He says and goes to step around when he finds his path blocked.
“ We asked you if you had any spare change.” The other guy says and again as they both advance towards Kame, leering at him and licking their lips as they take in Kame’s lean, yet muscular frame. Pinning poor Kame to the wall, one of the guys whispers in his ear...
“ Or we can take it out in trade” he says as he starts running his hand over Kame’s chest.
“ Com...come on fellas, let me go. I have a nice car..you guys can have that instead...just please, don’t hurt me!” He begs, getting scared now.
“ Nah...we don’t want the car, do we...Sanada?” The guy chuckles as he leans in and presses his lips to Kame’s neck, who tries to struggle, but its in vain, he realizes as his attackers are bigger and stronger than he is.
“ Nope..this is much better than a car” Sanada answers as his companion cackles and continues his assault on Kame who had yelled for help just as a big hand comes down over his mouth to muffle his cries.
Koki, who had followed Sanada and his friend out of the bar, landed quietly from the nearby roof top he was standing on and, quite calmly, said....
“ I do believe he said to let him go” Koki said, interrupting the men. Annoyed, both men stopped what they were doing and turned around.
“ This isn’t your business...now GET OUT OF HERE!!” Sanada yells and rushes Koki, who just stepped aside and with one sharp blow to Sanada’s back, the bigger guy just crumpled to the ground in a heap..not moving, while Kame just watched from his position by the wall...unable to move. Enraged at what happened to his friend..the other guy comes at Koki and pulls a knife and thrusts it in the direction of Koki’s abdomen. Koki dodges so fast that Kame was sure that the guy just pulled a Houdini and disappeared then reappeared two seconds later..but that couldn’t be possible...could it...? He questions, not only his eye sight, but his logic as well as he watches his mysterious hero deftly take out his other attacker without breaking a sweat. After Sanada’s friend goes down in much the same manner, he walks over to Kame who managed to finally pry his frozen body from the wall.
“ Are you okay?” Koki asks.
“ I...I’m fine...thank you..” Kame stammered like an idiot, finding himself unable to look away from the hazel eyes of his savior. Again, he felt his heart do another flip.
“ Want me to walk back with you, to make sure you get home okay?” Koki offers and he couldn’t help but to lightly caress Kame’s cheek, as he finds himself getting so completely and utterly lost in Kame’s soft brown eyes, that he wonders if he’ll ever be able to find his way out again.
“Uh s..sure” Kame says with a slight stutter and mentally kicking himself for sounding like an idiot.
Koki just smiles at what he considered Kame’s cuteness and introduces himself as they head back to Kame’s flat.
“ The name’s Tanaka Koki. But you can just call me Koki” he says to Kame, completely enthralled by Kame’s looks. He didn’t think such beauty existed among humans...well not until tonight anyway.
“ Kamenashi Kazuya.” Kame says and tells him just to call him Kazuya or Kame. They get to Kame’s door when Kazu notices that his two friends are still in his apartment.
“ I would invite you up but it seems my company hasn’t left yet.” He says as he mentally freaks out at his own odd behavior.
Chuckling Koki says, “ Its okay Kazuya, some other time then. Oh and you can stop silently freaking out, its not like we’re on a date or anything. All I did was help you out,” Koki just smiles reassuringly at Kame. Passing off the use of his mind reading powers as nothing more than just being highly perceptive.
“ Okay..some other time then. Well, good night and thanks again...Koki”
“ Good night to you Kazuya and don’t mention it” Koki replied and turning on his heel, he walks off into the night looking for his next meal. Kame walks into his apartment and it was just as he had said, Jin and Maru were still there, they never left apparently..who were clearly irritated about something.
“ What? I thought you lot went home already.” Kame says as Jin and Maru just stare at him.
“ Who were you talking too just now, Kame?” Maru asked.
“Nobody that concerns you, why?” he retorted wishing for all the world that people would just leave him be and let him enjoy what’s left of the night in peace.
“ Because the attacks on humans have increased and you can’t be too careful now a days.” Jin answered.
“ Well, I am back and I’m fine, so could you two just leave now? I’m tired and I want to go to bed.” Kame said.
“ But Kame, regarding your pendant....” Maru started but found himself suddenly cut off by Kame.
“ But nothing guys...look we can talk more about this tomorrow since I am off, ok?”
“ Alright, Kame, we’ll take our leave now.” Jin sighs in frustration, knowing that this was as far as they were going to be able push him tonight. With that both Jin and Maru left Kame alone and went to see if they can find out anything more about the “so-called” prophecy, while Kame just laid on his bed thinking about....of all people...Koki and the fact that he seems familiar, but Kame can’t place where he’s seen him before though he is sure he has. With that final thought, Kame slips into dreamland.

Which as of right now is just the other hunters and the humans that Maru and the others manage to rescue, just wait though Kame will be taking care of wounded vampyres as well...just not this early in the story. ^_^
