Koki gets back to Kame’s place around six after taking Ran-chan to the groomer’s for the complete works, he figures that just because it came from a pet shop doesn’t mean it still has to smell like one. Besides, he wants the dog looking her best for her new daddy. He grabs the spare key from under the mat and let’s himself into the house, first he sets all the dog’s stuff out in the hall and goes back for Ran-chan. He opens the door to find Kame sitting up in bed doing his homework..



“ Hey Kazu. Still feel like crap huh?”  Koki asks.




“ Oh hi Koki, yes I do.”  Kame says and starts coughing.




“ Well, I brought you a get well gift from your mom and one from me.”




“ Really? What is it?”  


Koki goes out into the hall and let’s Ran out of her carrier and tells her to go find Kame, she does just that. All of a sudden Koki hears a surprised shout come from Kame’s bedroom as Ran-chan flew into the room and pounced on his bed, like she was trying to scare him back to health.



“ Oh my god...where...when?” Kame couldn’t speak properly as excited as he was.


“ Do you like her?”


“ Like her? Koki, I just adore her, she’s very kawaii.” Kame says as Ran snuggles up by Kame’s pillow.


“ I hope you don’t mind Kame, but I kinda...sorta..already named her for you. Mainly cause your sick and your family couldn’t call her “it” all the time.” He smiles sheepishly.



“ Hmm.....that depends on what her name is.” Kame cocking an eyebrow.


“ I named her “ Ran-chan” since the first thing she did when the shop keeper put her down was run right to me.” Koki hopes the name is okay since both he and the dog really like it.



“ I like it Koki.” Kame smiles and turns to his new friend, “ hey Ran-chan” the dog looks up, “ so do you know what Koki’s other gift is?”  Ran-chan barks and gives Kame a look that says ‘I know..but I won’t tell.’


“ Now my other surprise...is this.” He brings in everything he bought for the little dog.



“ Wow...Koki! You didn’t have to do all this just for me.” Kame said surprised.


“ I didn’t do it for you...I did for Ran-chan.” Koki teases which causes Kame to smack his arm.



“ After I picked her up she smelled like that pet store still and I thought she should smell good for her new daddy, so I took her to the groomer as well. Now when you’re up and feeling better our children can have play dates. Now you won’t be so lonely here in this big house when your parents and brother aren’t home and I can always stay until they get home. Have you eaten yet?”  Koki asks.




“ Nope not yet. Oh and my fever has gone down as well. Other than that I’m still stuck in the house for the week at least, which means I won’t be able to go and watch my brother’s game. But you’re more than welcome to go and tell me how he does.” Kame says.



“ Hmm...let’s just work on the food for now and worry about the weekend later. What can your stomach handle?”


“ Just soup and crackers at the moment...I threw up this morning.”


“ I’ll be back.”

“ Wait..Koki! You don’t have to..” Kame shouts but Koki’s already at the stairs. Oh he hears Kame’s protest but ignores him anyway.


“ Well Ran-chan...I’m going to miss him terribly if I have to move again. But at least I can take you with me huh girl?”


Ran-chan just barks happily and goes back to taking up residence on Kame’s life science paper. Koki comes back in a few minutes later with chicken soup and some crackers and places the tray across his friend’s lap.


“ Koki you really didn’t have to do this...we have a cook.” Kame says but smiles gratefully anyway.



“ Yeah I know. I care about you Kazuya and if your sick or something I worry, just like you did when I was in that accident.” Koki smiles as Kame eats as much of the soup as his stomach will allow.




Not wanting to leave and with Kame not really wanting Koki to go home right away, they decide to do their homework together and play with Ran-chan until Kame’s mom gets home. Koki thinks back to what Junno had said to him the night he was released from the hospital and he wonders if Maru, Ueda and Junno are right and that they should allow things to go beyond just being friends.




Koki places his hand on Kame’s causing Kame to look at him..



“ You okay, koki?” Kame asks.



“ Its just that I...I’m falling for you Kazu. I know how you feel about not wanting to start something if you’re just going to have to leave again, but I don’t want to let you go without knowing what could’ve been, ya know?” he admits, not daring to look at Kame for fear of what he might find.


“ Yeah I know. I’m falling for you as well, I think we both noticed something spark between us my first day. To be honest when I was leaning against you and you had your arms around me..I really didn’t want to move, I just wanted to stay with you like that forever. I don’t want to move anymore, I think if someone were to ask me what my dream for the future is..it would be that I got to stay here in Tokyo with you. But with my parent’s jobs..for me and Ryu dreams of staying still are just that...dreams. If we have to part I don’t think I could survive it to be honest, Koki and I...”



“ So What do you want to do? Do you want to break another one of your rules or just keep things as they are?” Koki asked cutting Kame’s speech off.




Kame leans back against his headboard and absent mindedly stroked Ran’s fur and thought for a bit before leaning forward and saying....



“ I think that trying to live with what if’s would be even harder to recover from.” He whispers.


Smiling and picking up on Kame’s hint Koki leans in captures Kame’s lips gently. Smiling Kame places his hand on Koki’s neck pressing his lips harder against Kame’s, Koki licks his bottom lip asking for entrance and Kame parts his lips enough for Koki to slip his tongue in. Pretty soon they’re both fighting for dominance but Koki was a damn good kisser and Kame lost and moaned into the kiss. It wasn’t anything heavy as Koki sensed that Kame wasn’t ready to go straight to third base and he wasn’t about to push him either. They broke apart only after hearing Kame’s little brother running up the stairs calling his name as both were thanking all the deities in the world that Koki had shut the door when he came back up from the kitchen.


“ Nii-chan! Nii-chan!” Ryu says and bursts into Kame’s room panting as hard as his brother and Koki looking like he had just been in a fight.


“ Damn Ryu..what in the world happened to you?” Koki asks.




“Yeah Ryu, you’re all covered in dirt and...is that blood?”  Kame asks.


“ Remember that kid in my class that I told you about that is trying to force me to give him rabbit, just because he likes it?” Kame just nods as Ryu continues, “ well he cornered me after practice and said that he would beat me up if I didn’t give it to him, I refused and we fought. I just defended myself like dad always taught us to do and I beat him but he ran to get his older brother and it was his older brother that caused me have a bloody lip, so I ran back here and they are outside now waiting for me to get my rabbit. I don’t want to give my friend up, nii-chan and Koki-kun..what do I do?”  Ryu asked desperately.



“ What’s this kid’s name?” Kame asks.


“ Yuya Nishikido.”  


Kame and Koki both groaned knowing full well who’s younger brother that is.



“ Koki..help me up. Sick or not neither Ryo nor his brother is going to pick on my little brother.”


Koki helps Kame to get up and get dressed and with Ran-chan at their heels as she’s now attached to Kame’s every move, they walk outside to confront Ryo and his brother..



“ Well, well so your this brat’s older brother..who would’ve thought.” Ryo said.


“ Its one thing to mess with me, Nishikido, but I won’t allow you to pick on my brother.” Kame retorts swaying a little, Koki had to grab his arm to keep him from falling over.



“ I thought you had enough when Ueda beat the crap out of both you and Tomo? Sorry but the kid’s pet rabbit isn’t going anywhere, now why don’t you two beat it before you land in the hospital.” Koki threatens.





“ Look at the dog, nii-chan, I want it instead of some stupid rabbit.” Yuya says and points to Ran-chan.



Noticing where Ryo was now looking Kame immediately scoops up his dog and puts her on his shoulders just as Yuya went to snatch her. He goes for the dog again but Ryu steps between Kame and Ryo’s brother and shoves him backwards.


“ Oi! The dog stays as well. Why you don’t buy him a pet instead of stealing other people’s.” Kame says getting pissed, he just got Ran-chan he’s not about to give her up even if he does have to give up Koki in the end.



“ Nah...we like that dog better.” Ryo says and makes a grab for the dog.



“ Leave them alone, Ryo.” Koki says and hits Ryo with a right hook to his jaw.


“Ryu, take Ran-chan inside and lock the door. Go through the numbers in Koki’s phone until you get to the name “Ueda” and tell him to come over here now.” Kame says just as Ryo’s friends pull up. Ryu nods and does as he’s told just as Koki and Ryo trade punches.




“ Koki! Watch out!” Kame yells as a kid named Shin picks up a nearby brick and tries to hit Koki in the head with it.



Kame goes to help Koki despite being dizzy as hell from the flu but Tomo steps in his way...



“ Now, Now...you’re Ryo’s remember...NOT Tanaka’s.” Tomo says as he pins a still sick and weakened Kame against his front door.


“ Get off you leacherous prick!” Kame shouts and tries to shove Tomo away just as Ueda and Maru show up.



“ Hey...jerk!” Ueda says and sucker punches Shin.



“ Let him go!” Maru shouts and grabs Tomo by the throat and throws him to the ground.


“ Thanks Maru. I’m still sick so I don’t have the strength to do anything..yet.” Kame says.



“ No biggie. You go back inside..we’ll deal with Ryo and his crew.”


“ Okay, just make sure Koki doesn’t go over board...or I just might kill himself.” Maru just nods and as Kame goes back inside.



Noticing that the fight wasn’t going their way Ryo, YuYa, Shin and Tomo leave with a promise that Ryo will make Kazu another notch on his score card one way or another. Panting heavily Koki finally notices that Ueda and Maru were called to help him out.



“ Ueda? Maru? What are you doing here and how did you know that...?”



“ I got a call from your phone from someone saying they were Kame’s little brother, he mentioned the name Nishikido and that someone tried to take Kame’s new dog. He said that you and Ryo started fighting and that Kame was the one who told him to call me.” Ueda said.



“ Thanks guys. Actually it all started over Ryo’s brother trying to force Ryu to give up his rabbit but then they saw Kame’s new dog, Ran-chan, and it just got out of hand. Well, I better go and check on Kame since he’s still sick and to make sure Ran-chan didn’t get hurt when Yuya and Ryo tried to take her.” Koki says and calls for Ryu through the door to let him in.




“ Okay we’ll see you later then. Tell Kame that we said to get well soon.” Maru says.





Koki nods and the three friends part ways. Koki tells Ryu that everything is okay and that he’s going to check on Kame.



“ Hey Kame. Are you alright?” Koki asks just as Kame as a major coughing fit and snuggles back into his bed.



“ I’m okay and so is Ran-chan.” Kame says once he can talk again.


“ I’m glad. Want me to help you with the rest of your work or did you want to take a nap?”


“ Hmm...a nap, I think.” Kame says.


“ Its almost dinner time so you sleep while I go home and eat something. I also need to feed Sora-chan.” Koki says as he lightly kisses Kame.


“ Alright. I’ll call you later if I wake up at a decent hour.” Kame says and falls asleep before Koki could answer. Laughing softly Koki quietly leaves Kame’s room and after checking that Ryu’s going to be fine, he heads home.



For the next week Koki stays by Kame’s bed after dropping by his house to feed Sora-chan and staying until their mom gets home. Over time they learn more about each other, and Koki even shows Kame how best to give Ran-chan a bath when she’s not being very cooperative.  Monday morning comes faster than Kame thought it would and he feels a lot better, he’s no longer got the flu and he contributes some of his speedy recovery to his new boyfriend.



“ Hey Mom, Dad. Thanks for Ran-chan, I really love her and I will take really good care of her.” Kame promises as he sees Ran-chan curled up in his dad’s lap.


“ You’re welcome son. You deserver her, so tell me about this new boyfriend of yours.” His dad says catching Kame off guard, causing him to almost choke on his breakfast.


“DAD!!” Kame shouts turning a nice of shade red. “ He’s sweet, caring, protective and he doesn’t push me into anything that I’m ready for.”


“ I’m glad. So, when do I get to meet him?” he asked.


“ Now, now dear, the boys haven’t even had they’re first date yet and they’re still getting to know each other, don’t push.” Kame’s mom said.



“ Soon I promise.” Kame said since his dad’s been working late and by the time he gets home, Koki’s always gone.




After a very awkward breakfast with his dad, Kame heads to school. Kame pulls into the parking lot just as Koki is getting out of his car.


“ Hey Koki!” Kame shouts still sitting in his car as Koki comes over.


“ Hey, baby.” Koki says and gives Kame a quick kiss while the parking lot is empty.


“ I just had the most embarrassing talk with my dad this morning at breakfast, I guess my mom told him about you and now he wants to meet you.” Kame says with a small groan while they head to their lockers, Koki had taken the empty one next to him since both lockers had the best location for all their classes.



“ What did you say?” Koki asked.



“ I just said that he would get to meet you soon. My mom came to my defense and said that we’re still getting to know each other and that we haven’t even had our first date yet.”


Koki was about to respond when they hear the last person they wanted to deal with this early..


“ I can think of a good way for two people to get to know each other.” Ryo says with a smirk as he hooks an arm around Koki’s new boyfriend.


“ So can I and it doesn’t involve you.” Kame says and shoves Ryo away from him. “ That’s not and never will be for you...got that? I told you once already...that’s his right.” Kame says and nods at Koki.


“ Let’s go Kazu, history’s about to start.” Koki sniffs at Ryo as the couple head to class, Koki throwing his arm around Kame’s shoulders as they do so.


While the teacher is talking Koki writes a note and passes it back to Ueda telling him that he took their advice and that him and Kame are together despite what may or may not come to pass.


“ I’m glad.” Ueda answers back. He then writes: “Koki and Kame sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Kame with the baby carriage” - PS: I’m happy for you two; then slips it in Kame’s hand.


“You’re funny but thank you” Kame writes back and after the teacher gives them their assignment for the day and Kame hands the paper back to Ueda while their teacher grades some papers.




The rest of the day passes without incident seeing as Ryo and Tomo got detention for being late one too many times and they put a whoopie cushion in the teacher’s chair. As Koki, Kame and their friends are leaving Koki pulls Kame aside and says....



“ So..speaking of first dates, Kazu, wanna go see a movie and have dinner with me tonight?” Koki asks.



“ I thought you would never ask, Koki.” Kame exclaims and jumps on Koki’s back, forcing Koki to piggy back him all the way to his car.



After pretty much dropping Kame into the back of his convertible, luckily Kame drives with the top down, Koki tries to straighten up but Kame just grabs a handful of his shirt and pulls him down on top of him.

“ Hi...” Koki says breathlessly after being surprised like that.


“ Hi to you too.” Kame smiles and starts kissing him just as Ueda and the other’s walk over, wondering where on earth they got off too since Koki and Kame parked on the opposite end from their friends.



“ Oi! We don’t wanna see that!” Maru says.


Pulling back from Kame and after managing, with Kame’s help, to extract himself from the back of the car, Koki turns to Maru and asks..



“ Then why are you watching?”  


“ Oh shut up.”


“ Leave them alone Yuichi...just because you’re a prude about that kind of stuff doesn’t mean we all are.”  Junno says as Maru attacks the poor guy’s head.


“ Besides, Kame just agreed to our first date and since we can’t exactly do what other couples our age do at school, like making out in the halls, we couldn’t help ourselves.”  Turning to Kame, who by then scrambled into the driver’s seat he says, “ so I’ll pick you up around seven?”



“ Sure. Well, I have to go and get my brother from school. After we told our mom and dad about what happened last week, she doesn’t want him taking the train home by himself.”  Kame says.




“ Alright. Oh and Kame...I want details.”  Ueda says as Maru and Junno nod, causing Koki to roll his eyes.



“ I’ll see you later then Kazu.” Koki says.


“ Later.” Kame says and leaves to get Ryu from school.



“ Have fun on your date Koki” Ueda says as Koki drops them off at their cars and heads home.



Kame gets home and finds that his mother is home early for once. After he feeds and walks Ran-chan he starts on his homework.



“ Here you go Kame.” she says as she places a cup of tea on the table. “ What are you so happy about?” she asks noticing the big grin on her son’s face.


“ Thanks. Oh just Koki and I are having our first date tonight. Do you think dad will be home on time tonight so he can meet Koki?” Kame asks.


“ He said he didn’t need to stay late tonight, but I’ll call him later to make sure. Sooo....when is Koki going to pick you up?”



“ Around seven. We’re going to see a movie and have dinner, don’t worry we know how to act in public.” Kame says reassuringly.




Fortunately Kame’s dad gets home around six while Kame’s trying to finish cleaning his room, but Ran-chan’s keeps trying to ‘help’ making him take even longer. He finally finishes his chores and has enough time to shower before Koki comes to pick him up. He gets out, changes clothes and gets downstairs ten minutes before Koki’s supposed to show up.


“ Well, Koki should be here soon. Oh and dad...please don’t embarrass me in front of Koki. He’s the first one I have been close to out of all the schools I have been too..so please don’t scare him off like you did my second one.” Kame begs.



“ I’ll try not to son, but its still a father’s job to find out what his intentions are.” his father answers back just as Koki knocks on the door.

Kame opens the door and lets Koki in.


“ So you must be my son’s new boyfriend.” His father states. “ Please come in. My name is Kamenashi Hiro. You have already met my wife Sakura and my other son Ryu.”  he motions for Koki to sit on the couch with him.



“ Its nice to finally meet you Mr. Kamenashi-san. My name is Tanaka Koki, but everyone just calls me Koki.” Koki says politely and bows slightly.


“ I’ll get straight to the point, Koki-kun, how far do you plan on going with my son. He’s still a..”


“ DAD!! He knows that already!” Kame yells turning red and burying his face in one of the pillows next to him.


Koki just chuckled finding Kame’s drama queen reaction rather cute and says, “ Only as far as he feels comfortable. I won’t force him into anything he’s not ready for, I care about him and therefore he dictates how fast we go. I believe that if you genuinely care about a person then you should respect the other party’s wishes.” He answers honestly.



“ Hmm...I wish my own father felt that way. He didn’t approve of my marrying Kame’s mother and he never talked to me again for the remainder of his days.”



“ I’m sorry..I didn’t mean to imply that...” Koki starts after hearing what Kame’s dad said and realizing how his words sounded.



“ Its okay Koki-kun. I know you didn’t mean for that come out that way, I’m not angry. He had nothing against her personally from what my wife says just her father and his brother. Besides, I figured any son of Kousuke Tanaka couldn’t be a bad guy. I used to do business with him before that thing happened and he was a very admirable guy. But its getting late and you two a have a date to get too.” He says as they stand and head towards to door.



“ Have fun you two.” His mom says as they put their shoes and jackets on.


“ Yeah remember Kame, just because you don’t have a curfew doesn’t mean that you can stay out all night. If something happens or if you want to stay at Koki’s place just call and let us know where you’re going to be so we don’t worry about you,ok?” his father says.


“ Okay, I will.”  



With that Kame and Koki head out on their date.
