Summary: Kame's dream was to stay in one place permanantly..will his dream ever come true.
A/N: I shortened the tag for this fic as it slightly long. The same shortened tag will be on the first two chapters and future ones as well.
Kame goes to the hospital to give Koki the work he missed and being able to stay for longer visit, he figured he could get some help studying for that life science test they have on Monday. He’s about to open Koki’s hospital room door when he hears laughter coming from the other side...its Koki, who sounds annoyed, he freezes, just for a minute, with his hand on the door knob when girl’s voice reaches his ears as she says.....
“ Oh Koki-kun...you don't need to be pretend to be asleep."
Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, he opens the door and notices her hand griping Koki’s,who was asleep at this point. Still standing by the door he says..
“ H-hey Koki...I brought...” He’s cut off as the mystery girl comes over and takes Koki’s work from Kame.
“ Oh is that my Koki-kun’s work from today?” She asks while glaring at Kame for some reason.
“ Yeah it is. I told him I would bring it by.” Kame answered back.
“ Well, thank you. Now if you’ll excuse us.” She says and pushes Kame out of Koki’s room and locks his door before Koki would be woken up by all the noise.
Koki does get woken up some time later only to be taken down for a test,the girl claims she has no idea who this 'Kame' person Koki asks about and takes the credit for getting his school work. He's forced to leave his cell on the dresser by his bed or it would get ruined
Hurt and confused he takes on last look at the door to Koki’s room before heading somewhere, anywhere that was as far as possible from Koki and that girl. He gets to his car when he gets a message from,in his view is, Koki reading....
“ Thanks for bringing my work over and after today would you please stop hanging around with me...its kinda annoying.”
Now he’s really hurt, he thought Koki liked him. He thought Koki wanted to be friends but it was just a lie apparently. He sends one back saying that “if that’s what he wants then okay” as his eyes start to burn. After turning his car on he just drives, not really caring about his destination. He keeps driving until he finds himself in Shibuya, he parks and decides to take a walk...doing a little shopping while he’s there in the hope that it will take his mind off what just happened. While he’s waiting for his Latte he just happens to run into Junno who was out buying the latest video games, noticing Kame coming from the Starbucks on the corner he runs to catch up wondering why he’s here and not with Koki like he said he was going to be.
“ Kame! Wait up!” Junno shouts.
Stopping when he hears Junno call his name just as he catches up with him.
“ Hey Junno, buying more games I see.” Kame says trying to sound like nothing’s wrong.
“ Yeah. I thought you were going to visit Koki for a bit after you dropped his work off?” he asks genuinely confused.
“ I was but he was with some girl and when I went in to give him his stuff, she came over took it from me and pushed me out the door and locked it before either me or Koki could react. Besides, he doesn’t want to hang out with me anymore anyway so I decided to come here instead.” Kame says while looking anywhere but at Junno.
“ What gives you that idea, Kazu?” Junno asked.
“ He sent me this just as I reached my car...” Kame shows Koki’s friend the text Koki sent him.
“ What? I don’t get it, that doesn’t sound like Koki.” Junno was almost as confused as Kame, considering that, unbeknownst Kame, that when the latter’s not around he’s all Koki talks about.
“ At first I thought the same thing but I when I keep seeing the image of him and that girl holding hands...well I better get going Junno, it was nice to see you again.” Kame says and walks back to his car to head home. He couldn't see Koki's face so he had no idea that Koki really was asleep,when the girl got up Koki's sleeping form chose that moment to roll over and face the room opposite the door Kame was by.
“ Uh yeah bye Kame.” Junno shouts at Kame’s retreating back and then proceeds to make a phone call.
“ Yeah Ueda? Its me...we have a problem.”
“ What kind of problem?”
As answer Junno sends a copy of the text that Koki “ supposedly” sent to Kame causing Ueda to almost choke on his tea as Junno puts the phone back to his ear...
“ What the...that doesn’t sound like something Koki would say much less actually do, especially to Kame. He’s all Koki talks about when he’s not around, I don’t get it. What else did Kame say Junno?” Ueda asks bewildered.
“ He said that Koki was with some girl holding hands when Kame went in to give him the work he missed today, that she came over asked if it was for “ her Koki-kun” and took it from him and pushed him out. Then Kame gets that text I just sent you a few minutes later when he’s at his car. He tried to hide it but he looked really devastated, not to mention really confused. I tried to tell him otherwise but he it seems he’s going to do just as was requested of him and stay away. What are we gonna do, Tat-chan? They may not have much time together as it is since Kame doesn’t know how long he’s staying for.”
“ I don’t know..Koki’s the only one that can clear things up on his end. Meet me at the hospital will you? I have feeling that Ryo’s somehow the cause of this.”
“ Sure thing Tat-chan, I’m heading there now.” Junno says as he gets in his car and heads towards the hospital.
Meanwhile Kame makes it home before his brother and immediately locks himself in his bedroom with no plans on coming out. Six hours later his parents and brother get home from a meeting with his coach about the game that’s the day after tomorrow. They knock on his door wanting him to come down for dinner but he just yells through the door to leave him alone, he’s not feeling hungry anyway and after somehow managing to get his homework and, ignoring Ueda’s, Maru’s and Junno’s attempts to get a hold of him, he falls asleep wondering how he was going to face Koki and that girl tomorrow. Even Koki tried many times to contact Kame but to no avail, he was ignoring everyone.
Back at the hospital...
“ What’s going on Koki? Why does Kame think that you don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore and who was that girl that was here when he dropped by earlier?” Ueda asks as soon as he walks in.
“ Huh..what? I’m confused, what are you talking about?” Koki asks.
“ This.” Was all Ueda said as he shows Koki the message that was sent from his phone to Kame.
“ What in the hell? I never sent that to him, I’m in love with him why would I tell him to stay away from me? As for the girl I have no idea who she is..she’s not in any of our classes.”
“ Well, he thinks you did and he thinks there’s something between you and this girl. He told Junno that he heard a girl talking to you and when walked in, not only did she take your stuff from him and kicked him out, that you two were holding hands.”
“ But I didn’t! I was asleep waiting for him and when I woke up that girl was already there. I even went to call him to tell him to come back but my phone had vanished and when I came back from having my ribs x-rayed my phone reappeared and I’ve been trying to get a hold of Kame ever since.” Koki protests.
“ Don’t get excited I know that Koki. To be honest, I smell a rat. A dirty weasely rat by the name of one Nishikido Ryo. But see this is why you should him tell how you feel, Koki. Regardless of how long he’s going to be here for, would you rather say good-bye with all the “ what if’s and what could have been’s” hanging over your heads and hearts or would you rather make the most of the time you have together?” Junno said.
“ No..I don’t but I can’t do anything if he won’t even talk to me.” Koki says just as the doctor walks in telling him he can go home now if he wants.
Thanking the doctor Koki does just that. With a little help from Ueda, as his ribs are still healing, he gets dressed and heads home deciding that he’ll talk to Kame before school tomorrow. Unfortunately Koki doesn’t get the chance as Kame never shows up.
The next morning Kame wakes up with a really high fever and so sore he can barely move. He text’s his mom telling what’s wrong and that he can’t go to school. She says that she’ll send their doctor over to check him out. He says okay and goes back to sleep. He wakes up to a knocking on his door. He tells the person to come in..it was the doctor. After doing a complete check up he says that Kame has a really bad case of the flu, he orders Kame on fluids and bed rest and tells him that he’ll pass the prescription for his antibiotics along to his parents to fill on there way home. Kame tells him its okay and that he’ll get his brother to do it later.Despite being told to stay away from him, he has no choice but contact Koki as he’s the only one their group that has all of Kame’s same classes.
“ He wasn’t biology nor life science either, Koki?” Maru asks.
“ No and he doesn’t seem like the type to skip a day just because he...” He’s interrupted as his phone vibrates and the words “ I know you told me to leave you be but I’m too sick to come to school and I’m stuck at home for the next week or more and you’re the only one that has all my classes. Could you bring my work over please and then I really will leave you alone.” flashes across the screen and then he gets another one with Kame’s address.
“ What’s the matter?”
“ Its from Kazu. He’s asked me to bring his work for the next week since he’s too sick to get out of bed and he doesn’t want to be behind anymore than he already is. He really does believe that I sent him that. Luckily I had the forethought to get his work for today just in case, I’ll take it by on my way home.” Koki says as he puts Kame’s work in his bag.
“ Alright. We’ll call you later, Koki. I have a little “date” with Ryo and Tomo to get too.” Ueda growls, cracking his knuckles in the process. “ I don’t care if Kame ever becomes my friend or not...I’m still going to beat the crap out of those two for picking on such a nice guy.”
“ Just don’t get arrested for assault, Tat-chan.” Junno chuckles even though he knows that Ueda is being serious.
Koki leaves and heads to Kame’s house where he’s met outside by Kame’s little brother Ryu. Seeing the guy that Kame had said would be dropping by Ryu says...
“ You must be my nii-chan’s new friend? My name’s Kamenashi Ryu, but just call me Ryu.”
“ Yes, Ryu. My name is Koki. So how is he?” Koki asks concerned.
“ He has a really high fever, the chills, he’s sore all over and he’s coughing up a storm. I was supposed to get his medicine for him but he forgot that I’m still too young to get that stuff by myself and I, was wondering if...would you mind..?”
“ Yeah I’ll go and get it for him. You just go and have fun, I’ll look after your brother.” Koki says and gives Ryu a reassuring smile.
“ Thanks a lot, Koki-kun. I’ll be back later.” After telling Koki which room was Kame’s, Ryu heads out to play ball with his friends.
Koki walks in and heads upstairs to Kame’s room. He knocks quietly and opens the door as Kame tells him to come in.
“ Hey Kazu.”
“ Hey Koki. I’m sorry for bothering you but you’re the only one that can get my work for me. After this I will do as you asked....” Koki cuts him off.
“ Don’t worry about it. You just rest and I’ll be back with your medicine and the we’ll talk when I get back, okay?”
Kame nods as Koki goes to the drug store get his antibiotics. He comes back to find Kame still asleep, he checks Kame’s head and its burning up. He gets a bowl with cool water and a rag and places the wet rag over Kame’s forehead until he wakes up to take his medicine. He sits by Kame’s bed watching him sleep and wondering how he can fix things with his friend. Kame wakes up an hour later to find Koki sitting next to his bed and wet rag on his forehead.
“ Hey sleepy head. I brought your meds for you.”
Kame takes the pill, luckily he didn’t have a sore throat and says..
“Thanks koki.”
“ Don’t mention it. Hey at least paying for you to get better is the least I can do right?” he says and gives Kame a wink.
“ Well, I won’t keep you. Your girlfriend is probably wondering where you’re at.” he says and looks out his bedroom window.
“ Listen Kame..” Kame turns his head back to Koki. “ I don’t have a girlfriend and I never sent you that text telling you that you were annoying and to leave me alone. I wouldn’t do that to anyone that I get along with and definitely not to you.”
“ But I saw you yesterday, she was sitting by your bed and...”
“ Can I finish? I know what you saw and heard Kazu, I don’t have any clue who that girl is. Yes, she goes to our school but she’s not the kind of girl I usually hang with. I’m not even attracted to them. I was going to call you back and tell you too get your ass back there when I noticed my phone had disappeared and when I came back from getting my ribs x-rayed my phone suddenly reappeared and I had no idea that she did that until Junno and Ueda told me. It was Ryo and Tomo’s doing I had no part in it that was willing on my end,except for still being in the hospital for my injuries. Look I don’t what’s happening between us but in the short month I’ve known you, Kame, you’ve become more important to me than you realize and I can’t just let you go no matter how far apart we are.” Koki finishes.
“ I...I’m just as confused as you are. Ever since that day under the tree when we made Ryo’s mood worse, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. But I don’t how long I will be in Tokyo for and I don’t want to start something just to end it. Koki I don’t mean to hurt you but I....”
“ I know Kame, I know. We’ll finish talking about this when you’re feeling better. You just rest okay, ? I’ll call you later and check on you.” Koki says as he stands.
“ Okay and thanks again Koki...for everything.” Kame says.
“ Don’t mention it.” Koki says and as he kisses the top of Kame’s head. He walks out to let Kame get his rest where he’s met with Kame’s mom.
“ You must the my son’s new friend? Thanks for taking care of him.” Kame’s mom smiles not letting Koki know that she over heard their conversation.
“ You’re welcome. Its nice to meet you, my name is Tanaka Koki. But if you want you can just call me Koki.” He says with a slight bow. “ Can I ask you something?”
“ Yeah sure.”
“ Do you know if...?” Koki stops not sure if he’s asking something too intrusive or not.
“ You’re wondering how long we’re going to be here for?” she says as Koki just nods.
“ To be honest, we’re not sure right now Koki. When we find out we’ll let Kame know but can I get you to do one last thing for Kazu?” She asks as they walk into the kitchen.
“Yeah sure.”
“ I saw the cutest little dog at the pet shop while I was out shopping yesterday and I asked the pet store if they would hold it for me. Can you go and pick it up for me? I want to give it to Kame as a thank you present for having to put up with the constant moving around and not complaining about it, and for helping his father and me to take care of his brother. That and he’s always wanted one.” She says as she goes to give Koki the money for the animal.
“ Okay and don’t worry about the money..I’ll pay for it. I have been looking for a good way to repay Kame back for bringing me my school work and stuff.” Koki says as he politely declines the Kame’s mom’s cash.
“ Are you sure dear?”
“ Yep, like you guys..my brothers and I have more money than we know what to do with. Money that we never take for granted that we’re lucky to have.”
“Okay. But I have to get back to work and we’ll probably be late tonight so just use the key under the mat and let yourself in. Ryu’s going to be at a friend’s house this weekend.” Kame’s mother says as Koki helps her to put her coat on like a proper gentleman would.
“ Okay.” As they part ways and Koki heads off to the pet shop that was on the hold ticket she gave him to pick up Kame’s new little friend.
Koki puts the dog in his car and all the stuff he knows Kame’s going to need in the trunk of his car, his bike is still in the shop, and heads back to Kame’s house. Looking at the little dog Koki says, “ Kame’s going to surprised once he sees you Ran-chan. I just hope he’s not upset that I already named you.” Ran just barks happily in response to her new name making Koki chuckle.

Kame nods as Koki goes to the drug store get his antibiotics. He comes back to find Kame still asleep, he checks Kame’s head and its burning up. He gets a bowl with cool water and a rag and places the wet rag over Kame’s forehead until he wakes up to take his medicine. He sits by Kame’s bed watching him sleep and wondering how he can fix things with his friend. Kame wakes up an hour later to find Koki sitting next to his bed and wet rag on his forehead.
“ Hey sleepy head. I brought your meds for you.”
Kame takes the pill, luckily he didn’t have a sore throat and says..
“Thanks koki.”
“ Don’t mention it. Hey at least paying for you to get better is the least I can do right?” he says and gives Kame a wink.
“ Well, I won’t keep you. Your girlfriend is probably wondering where you’re at.” he says and looks out his bedroom window.
“ Listen Kame..” Kame turns his head back to Koki. “ I don’t have a girlfriend and I never sent you that text telling you that you were annoying and to leave me alone. I wouldn’t do that to anyone that I get along with and definitely not to you.”
“ But I saw you yesterday, she was sitting by your bed and...”
“ Can I finish? I know what you saw and heard Kazu, I don’t have any clue who that girl is. Yes, she goes to our school but she’s not the kind of girl I usually hang with. I’m not even attracted to them. I was going to call you back and tell you too get your ass back there when I noticed my phone had disappeared and when I came back from getting my ribs x-rayed my phone suddenly reappeared and I had no idea that she did that until Junno and Ueda told me. It was Ryo and Tomo’s doing I had no part in it that was willing on my end,except for still being in the hospital for my injuries. Look I don’t what’s happening between us but in the short month I’ve known you, Kame, you’ve become more important to me than you realize and I can’t just let you go no matter how far apart we are.” Koki finishes.
“ I...I’m just as confused as you are. Ever since that day under the tree when we made Ryo’s mood worse, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. But I don’t how long I will be in Tokyo for and I don’t want to start something just to end it. Koki I don’t mean to hurt you but I....”
“ I know Kame, I know. We’ll finish talking about this when you’re feeling better. You just rest okay, ? I’ll call you later and check on you.” Koki says as he stands.
“ Okay and thanks again Koki...for everything.” Kame says.
“ Don’t mention it.” Koki says and as he kisses the top of Kame’s head. He walks out to let Kame get his rest where he’s met with Kame’s mom.
“ You must the my son’s new friend? Thanks for taking care of him.” Kame’s mom smiles not letting Koki know that she over heard their conversation.
“ You’re welcome. Its nice to meet you, my name is Tanaka Koki. But if you want you can just call me Koki.” He says with a slight bow. “ Can I ask you something?”
“ Yeah sure.”
“ Do you know if...?” Koki stops not sure if he’s asking something too intrusive or not.
“ You’re wondering how long we’re going to be here for?” she says as Koki just nods.
“ To be honest, we’re not sure right now Koki. When we find out we’ll let Kame know but can I get you to do one last thing for Kazu?” She asks as they walk into the kitchen.
“Yeah sure.”
“ I saw the cutest little dog at the pet shop while I was out shopping yesterday and I asked the pet store if they would hold it for me. Can you go and pick it up for me? I want to give it to Kame as a thank you present for having to put up with the constant moving around and not complaining about it, and for helping his father and me to take care of his brother. That and he’s always wanted one.” She says as she goes to give Koki the money for the animal.
“ Okay and don’t worry about the money..I’ll pay for it. I have been looking for a good way to repay Kame back for bringing me my school work and stuff.” Koki says as he politely declines the Kame’s mom’s cash.
“ Are you sure dear?”
“ Yep, like you guys..my brothers and I have more money than we know what to do with. Money that we never take for granted that we’re lucky to have.”
“Okay. But I have to get back to work and we’ll probably be late tonight so just use the key under the mat and let yourself in. Ryu’s going to be at a friend’s house this weekend.” Kame’s mother says as Koki helps her to put her coat on like a proper gentleman would.
“ Okay.” As they part ways and Koki heads off to the pet shop that was on the hold ticket she gave him to pick up Kame’s new little friend.
Koki puts the dog in his car and all the stuff he knows Kame’s going to need in the trunk of his car, his bike is still in the shop, and heads back to Kame’s house. Looking at the little dog Koki says, “ Kame’s going to surprised once he sees you Ran-chan. I just hope he’s not upset that I already named you.” Ran just barks happily in response to her new name making Koki chuckle.

Oh he'll definitely love Ran-chan ^^
